Spoilers Season 2 Preview Images and Videos Thread

I wouldn't mind a musical, I frickin' loved the crossover, but with 2 "specials" in 10 episodes and 2 remaining, it really doesn't feel like they done that much. In a 22-26 episode season, it'd be another thing for me.

And sure, other shows did character episodes all the time in 24 episodes, but it didn't feel (to me) like we were getting robbed of more relevant material (arc or not).

Of course I do feel a bit robbed by 10 episode seasons, especially now that we're (about to be) down 3 series'.

“Relevant” in what sense?

Relevant to the "arc" ala: DS9, or the grand sense of exploration ala: TNG or SNW.

But again, those other series' had 24 eps for the most part. 10 is already too damn short for my taste.
The arcs in SNW are mostly character driven, And every episode has advanced one or more of those. I don’t think either TNG or SNW has an “grand sense of exploration” arc. TNG especially seemed to abandoned any sense of that early on.

Early TNG definitely had that "more TOS" feel than later seasons, but also the exploration. Especially since it was the first series after TOS, they weren't in danger of revisiting as much ST "lore" as the prequel shows.

The episodes seem to be going as light as possible before going super dark the next. With a musical as nine, will ten be massively dark? Aren't we expecting a Gorn attack?

Like TOS it was a little "exploring", a little bit of shuttling people from point A to point B, the occasional "welfare check" on colonies, ships and outposts and the odd engagement with political rivals. There was no through arc about exploring. All those things were just the way the crew would be faced with what ever problem of the week.
Let's look at the first 10
  1. Encounter At Farpoint- More of a mystery as the crew tries to figure out the secret of Farpoint Station. Then there's the side quest with Q. Both set up some "big things" that kinda get pushed aside.
  2. Naked Now- TOS rehash with the crew responding to a strange messages from a ship they're scheduled to rendezvous with.
  3. Code of Honor- Mission to negotiate the acquisition of a rare vaccine. Things go awry is maybe the "best" way to describe what follows.
  4. The Last Outpost- Starts out as a "Space Cops" episode. Turns into the classic Trek trope that pits the Enterprise against the Ferengi while an ancient race sits in judgement
  5. Where No One has Gone Before- A little accidental exploration in this one. Themission revolves around a Starfleet propulsion expert upgrading the Enterprise's engines. Though it's the Traveller and young Wesley where the true power and mystery lies.
  6. Lonely Among Us- A diplomatic mission goes awry when there is murder afoot. Journey to Babel meets Wolf In Fold
  7. Justice- Finally a new planet and a first contact. Just watch where you're going Wes!
  8. The Battle- Revenge and some Picard backstory.
  9. Hide and Q- The temptation of William Thomas Riker. Plus there's a mission to save a colony in distress
  10. Haven- Ye Ol' Wedding Episode. Though this one doesn't feature a fight to the death, but there is plague ship.

The Pike/Batel thing obviously has to end if he's destined to go back to Vina.

She's a fun actress, so it would be regrettable to lose her. However, it if gives Pike an arc next season and more of an edge, I'm for it.
