Spoilers Season 2 Preview Images and Videos Thread

That's exactly a third of all episodes this season so far. Kirk got more episodes than Ortegas, M'Benga or other main cast members the entire series so far.
Ortegas and M'Benga have been in every episode, IIRC. M'Benga has been focused on in at least three.

Imagine if Cpt. Picard just didn't fuck off of DS9, and instead taught Sisko or others how to run shit every third episode. That spin-off would never have stood on its own feet!
Since that's not how they've been using Kirk, I don't think it applies. He's pretty much been a sidekick in all the episodes he's been in.

Kirk hasn't "gotten an episode" yet. "Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow" is La'An's. "Lost in Translation" is Uhura's. And so forth.

The fact that some fanboys get particularly excited when Kirk is in an episode as a supporting player does not mean that he's actually the primary focus of the episode.

I can’t wait till Kirk joins the main cast next season.

I don’t mind SNW having a bunch of recurring cast if they are developed as well as DS9’s recurring cast. The Kirk bros are fun additions.

I'm all for Kirk as a full-time regular next season. He brings some balance to the cast.

Do a one-year time skip.

Officially promote Pike to Fleet Captain. Kirk becomes Captain of the Farragut. All the Captains in the sector report directly to Pike, including Kirk... allowing for him to organically appear in the series.

Cringe...

Season 2 is really gimmicky.
If this was a 26 episode season and this was season 6 where they were scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas I could understand why they'd go there.

Then they ought have Spock break out a funeral song because it's apparently more cheery.

They said they were taking big swings. A musical is a pretty big swing, Might be something you don’t like but it’s hardly scraping the bottom of the barrel. Now it might go down in flames like the Hindenburg but it won’t be because the show doesn’t take chances.
The episodes this season have been twists on some pretty classic tropes
Character on trial
Time travel
Crossovers
Character not quite themselves (Usually Spock in TOS)
Planet /Anomaly having adverse affect on the crew
Character pushed to the limit
So not seeing it as “gimmicky”

Is a musical taking a chance though? It's already been done a lot on other shows. Buffy, the Flash etc.
I think it's still a bit of a chance. It has been done on plenty of other shows, but not always well received. Plus, it's less common in sci fi as opposed to fantasy.
