News Season 12 Classic Series Blu-Ray Announced

A newly-released archive audio has revealed that Peter Capaldi was actually on the radar of the show's production team way back in 1975.

This will be on the series 12 blu-ray

The official fan club secretary sat down with Baker and Hinchcliffe

"I would think the letters from a lot of the people who know a lot about the programme are probably your members, or members of the other fan club – this Peter Capaldi, and people like that."

Miller's vintage recording is a bit of a gem, featuring a frank Baker and Hinchcliffe opening up about all kinds of Doctor Who-related matters. Baker, for one, backs the show's official fan club, but is rather baffled by the existence of another organisation devoted solely to his predecessor Jon Pertwee.

There was also talk of how to promote the show and possibly a movie

Now priced at £43.54 on Amazon UK - still too expensive for me to consider double dipping - £29.99 and I might reconsider. I haven't seen any announcement of further such compilations.

ETA: Some reviews on Amazon UK state that the sound mix on the first episode of The Sontaran Experiment is a bit screwed up and that the new CGI on Revenge of the Cybermen cuts in and out apparently randomly. Anyone like to comment on those points?

The CGI problem did not happen on my player. Might be a firmware issue on older players?

The Snotaran story's audio got mangled somewhere in the manufacturing process and audio polarity was reversed, creating a phase problem. Not everyone will recognize it, audiophiles absolutely will. Those who can hear the difference may or may not care.

Peter Davison's first season coming to blu-ray

Seasons 9 (Three and Jo), 18 (Four in burgundy, his last season) and 26 (Seven and Ace, series finale) are reportedly the next ones lined up after that.

EDIT: At the rate they're currently going, assuming they save Hartnell/Troughton to the very end (and don't want to have to keep redoing those particular discs), they've got about four-five years (2023!) before they'll have to buckle down and either animate - or in some other way recreate - the remaining missing episodes, with or without whatever Phil Morris has been digging up.

Is the blu Ray worth it? I was told that it didn’t add anything to it and that the picture quality was no better

It's worth it if you didn't shell out $25-30 a pop on each DVD 'episode' a decade or so ago. Now you get a whole season's worth of episodes, all the previous DVD extras (where, unlike most TV shows, BBC pretty much emptied everything they had into the disc) plus a handful of new ones, all in one convenient package, all for around $50. Yeah, I'd say it's worth it.

Having flipped back and forth between my DVDs and the Blu-Rays there's a definite improvement. Now, you have to put that in the context of what you're looking at. It's still cheap 1970's videotape but it's the best presentation of cheap 1970's videotape you're going to get.

That's awesome. :D

...probably more awesome than most of season 19. :p

The documentaries look fun at least. If nothing else, you can tell those guys really enjoy each others' company.

$70 for US fans, £45 for UK. And UK gets it two weeks earlier.

I'm sure it won't be the final price, but... ouch...
