Scribble's scribbles

Ooh, Shiny!

Well, sparkly, really, but still... ;)

Thank y'all kindly!

I had to take a break from that project for a little while (yes, I'm all over the place lately!) to work on a couple of other things that other people are dependant on.

Another teaser image:

I just gotta say that I love light-emitting materials (shaders)!

Not a single light was used. Actually, come to think of it, I haven't used a single light in ages. Even on my D'k Tahg the backlight was a light-emitting sphere. The rest was lit by the environment image (HDRI).

Speaking of the D'k tahg, I think that's a good one for me to familiarize myself with Substance Painter.

The above image uses Substance materials, but simple box-mapping.

And looking at this, as far as pretty pictures go, I think it could use a backlight.

Much better.

That's my problem. I worry so often about lighting when I absolutely do NOT need to do so.

Anyway...it's kinda what I do when I've been awake for 24 hours. I stall...

Quick note: 1:40 into the render at this point. Not too shabby for a GTX 1070.

oooooh that looks like the beginnings of a bridge :D

Might be, might be. ;)

I have the radius too large between the control surfaces and the readouts. I'll fix that later tonight or tomorrow after I get the large overhead display panels laid out, or at least the frames.

Minor things about this can easily be fixed and will be (the gap in the frames at the afore-mentioned radius, for example).

By far not a huge update, but I've found the proper type of carpet used on the show, as far as I've been told.

I modified the curvature of the control surface in my CorelDraw but have yet to bring it into Max to create the object. That will be coming tonight, along with the overhead displays, or at least the frame. Possibly even the dome, but not sure yet.

Wow, that looks amazing! What is it?

Just kidding! ;)

I can't wait to see all the jewelled buttons and switches installed.

Hahahahahahahaha!!!

I know. I can't wait, either.

I'm hoping to finalize all of the shapes and everything before I lay out all of the control panels.

I will be verifying all of my sizes and positions and angles and all of that by screen matching. There's a utility in 3ds Max for just that, though I'll be using for a slightly different purpose than intended.

And thank you. :)

Reworked the upper dome a little. Played with materials. Minor update, but it's looking better.

Yes, that red is much, much too vibrant right now. I need to adjust it.

What's really cool and makes my habit of rendering after almost every semi-major change in geometry is that my renders with Octane are generally taking about a minute or less. Some as low as 30 seconds.

Again, no lights.

Totally digging these! I love you attention to the details...that being said, don't forget the access panel that Spock opened under his station, during Balance of Terror...cause I'll be looking for it :D
Seriously brilliant skills exhibited here (as always)

Oh, it's coming! ;)

Thank you very much!

I'll be working on all of the detail pieces (grates, overhead lights, buttons, displays, etc) once I'm sure everything else is correct.

I need to say that I have to take a couple of days off of this project to work on something for someone that was involved in TNG-Nem, including DS9 and Voy. It's a personal project, but also Trek related and I'll post my results when I'm done.

Quick thing...while I love what I've done with Octane in Max with this bridge, it is still very much a CG image and not "real"-looking at all.

I had a play with Photoshop with one of my last renders. While it still does not completely correct the CG feel to the image, I think it's kind of interesting.

What'cha think?

@Scribble - curious, what about your previous renders do you think look CG versus "real"?

For example, I like the blacks of the chairs as seen in your #274 render (compared to #280) as they're closer to how I see them in the series as my reference point.
