Scotty in command

Reynolds

Commander
Red Shirt
In the original series when Kirk and Spock were off the ship Scotty was in command. It was easy to Scotty in a command role.

I can't imagine Simon Pegg's Scotty in a command role. I haven't seen into Darkness yet. Who is in command then Kirk and Spock aren't there?

That's easy to figure out...
Kirk is Captain after his battle promotion in the last one.
We've got Spock as Commander who has not been promoted for whatever reason.
Scotty is Lieutenant-Commander according to his insignia on his sleeves, so is Bones.
Sulu and Uhura as Lieutenant and Chekov as 18 year old Ensign.
So if Kirk and Spock leave, Scotty and Bones would be the highest ranked officers onboard, if there is no other. But considering their special expertise they've got better things to take care of, so does Uhura as she speaks all three Romulan dialects fluently. That would leave Hikaru in command, as he is not only a helmsman, but also a command officer.

A medical doctor would not normally be left in command no matter what their rank.
Likewise a lieutenant might be left incharge of the bridge in non emergency situations even when there are more senior officers elsewhere on the ship.

Scott resigned his post prior to Enterprise leaving Spacedock, so Sulu was in command while Kirk and Spock were on Kronos.

Of all the things I am hoping for, seeing Simon Pegg's Scotty sitting in the Captains Chair is one of them (as well as performing miracles either in the Engine Room or crawling round in the bowels of the ship)

I'd like to see Scotty in command for part of the next movie just for old times sakes. Just a scene or two not the whole thing.

Nah, let's put Uhura in command. We haven't seen that before.

Thought she got the center seat in The Lorelei Signal in TAS? Though I'm not opposed to her getting a shot in the chair in the next movie.

Oops. I confess: I tend to forget about The Animated Series.

I thought you were an all-knowing Trek guru? Shaking my faith, Greg!

Nah, I'm pretty weak where TAS is concerned. I remember the tribble ep and Robert April ep, and that's about it.

True, but during the opening scene Scotty seems to be the one in command. (And if it's not him, the only other eligible main cast member is Chekov - everybody else is off the ship at that point!)

You may very well be right. I can't remember who was in command at the beginning. Now I can justify another trip to the cinema to my wife!
