Scotland to leave the UK?

Does this mean that they'd be removing the Saltire of St. Andrew from the Union Flag? Would it even then still technically BE a "Union" Flag, since there would really no longer be a "Union"?

This is the biggest issue arising from Scottish independence, whether or no a piece of fabric stays the same!!!!

Given the cross of Saint Patrick used to be representative of Ireland itself, but now represents Northern Ireland, I'm sure something can be done to retain the make up of the flag.

If not, we'll just remove the white cross of saint Andrew and it'll look a bit funny for a while while we get used to it.

You'd have to remove the blue from St. Andrew's as well, resulting in this:

^Shits & giggles? Puff up the Welsh ego so they don't decide to split? Increase sales at flag shops?

Well, the Welsh have the Dragon Flag. So maybe you could add St. George slaying the dragon?

Or maybe that's not such a good idea.

That's terrible-looking.

I don't think the Scottish people want to leave as much as Alex but they will get more power no doubt. To be honest Alex digusts me and is a little weasel who is lying to people when he claims Scotland will be better off outside the UK because economists have told him different.

I don't know about Scotland, but in 2025 Northern Ireland will
I was going to disagree and began formulating an argument in my head, then it hit me what you were doing. And it was 2024. ;)

I prefer this:

Much more accurate, and random.

A country is more than an economy.

It would look much better if the cross of the Irish flag was centered.

It seems to me that the easiest solution, from a purely vexillological standpoint, would be to keep the existing design, but substitute the black field from the Flag of St. David for the blue field of the Flag of St. Andrew. Like so:

That's hardly perfect, but it would offer the advantage of avoiding really major changes, while adding a Welsh element, in place of the Scottish element.

ETA: Of course, my suggestion is not nearly as funny as TheGodBen's.

Being the massive flag fan I am, I forgot about the Blue belong to Scotland as well.

I know it's a quick rendering on your behalf and please don't take this personally, but that just looks utterly shite.

I hope to dear sweet Jebus that Scotland never leaves and we don't get this crapfest of a flag.

On the other hand, this is rather cool and it does add that Welshness that is lacking.

Am sure the people who find themselves worser off will disagree. Scotland is still a country just like Wales and Northern Ireland, the UK makes us stronger but were still our own countries.

I have litle doubt the Tory party care about Scotland leaving the union because that would give them a death grip on Westminster.

They want to be inderpendent from the UK but they still wish to keep the Queen... - Wouldn't it be great if they just made up their mind, be British or fend for yourselfs, no Queen! - Become a republic like Ireland by all means, just no Queen. - What's the point of Westminister if they're just going to make Holyrod anyway?

Since the flag is a result of the Act of Union I wonder if they'd throw out the entire thing if Scotland leaves.

And if Scotland goes, would Irish reunification become more likely, a Balkanization of the Isles?
