Scifi TV schedule for the next year

lets keep this straight:

Canceled:

Eli Stone, Life on Maris (US), Eleventh Hour, The Ex-List, Kings, Knight Rider, My Own Worst Enemy, Valentine.

Is Reaper canceled? Is Medium canceled?

What hurt most of all was the cancellation of both Pushing Daisies, and now Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Terminator was a great show with my favorite BSG writers from the good old days of seasons 1-2 on it. Really, those two shows were the only "survivors" from the year of the WGA strike that returned that I really cared about.

Renewed:

ABC - Lost (entering final season?

CBS - Ghost Whisperer, Medium? ( I don't watch these)

NBC - Heroes, Chuck (I really don't like either now)

FOX - Dollhouse, Fringe (very good shows)

CW - Smallville, Supernatural

New shows:

Fall:

ABC - Witches of Eastwick the series, Flash Foward

CBS - (none)

NBC - (none)

CW - Vampire Diaries (ugh)

Mid-Season:

ABC - V remake

CBS - (none)

NBC - Day One (US version...why not just renew Jericho?)

FOX - Human Target, Past Life (ugh)

V's personal watch-list:

CBS has no returning shows I watch, *nor* is it going to have ANY new scifi shows, in Fall *or* Spring. CBS is gone.

As for renewed shows, Lost is good but I haven't been able to keep up at all, and its entering its final season. I personally won't be watching for time reasons.

I've hated Chuck since the beginning, and I've stopped watching Heroes.

I'm openly surprised they keep Smallville on the air. Supernatural is apparently good but I never watched it, and I can't catch up now.

So the only "returning shows" I intent to watch are FOX's Dollhouse and Fringe. I have to catch up with the first seasons of both before summer ends.

As for Fall....Fall sounds laughably bad in terms of "new" stuff. Another vampire show? A flash foward show by half of Bermanga? Witches of Eastwick I'll at least watch the first episode, but I don't expect to be surprised.

Mid-season, after Christmas: Human Target and Past Life sound awful. "Day One" I'll watch the first episode but I don't expect to get attached.

So really, the only "new" show I intend to watch in the ENTIRE next year, is the "V" remake coming mid-season on ABC.

As for the SYFYlis channel, I'll try out Stargate: Universe in fall, but I think it will be worse than Atlantis. And "Caprica" looks awful, coming in spring.

So in short, TV I'm particularly interested in between this summer and next summer (not including Adult Swim) are:

Dollhouse (FOX)
Fringe (FOX)

New series:

V remake (ABC, mid-season)

Stargate Universe (SYFY) (Fall, trying it out)

Sure you can. Netflix, itunes, or DVD. It's a damn sight better than Smallville ever was and it actually gets better as the show goes along. Much better.

Lots of good shows got canceled. Loved Eli Stone, LOM, Eleventh Hour and My Own Worst enemy.

Very small chance of Reaper getting a sydication deal. medium was picked up by CBS and wil be airing on Fridays after Ghost Whisperer. I don't like medium at all

I watch GW cause JLH is insanely beautiful. Already stated my feelings on medium,. good move by CBS to pick it up though.

heroes sucked ass from season 2 until the the back half of this season. Am encouraged by the end of this season. I LOVE chuck! Great show. Happy it's back but pissed it's only getting 13 episodes.

No idea on WOE. Will tune in for premire and see what's up if previews look good. Will watch Flash Forward without a doubt.

There's no science fiction or fantasy aspect in Human Target. It's a straightforward action show. Also, V, I recall you posting a little while ago that you considered it pathetic for anyone to count Eleventh Hour as a sci-fi series, and yet now you're doing so yourself. What gives?

I honestly forgot about Tru Blood (HBO) and The Prisoner miniseries remake (AMC...when does that air?) I hear good things.

Eureka was unwatchable since the start, and the "newness" factor which was its sole saving grace has also worn off now; Warehouse 13 looks awful.

And we might have to start counting Happy Town in these lists. I've read it has "supernatural elements" (although they will probably play around with the issue of whether they could have rational explanations, a la Lost's first season).

Of that list, V is the one I'm really interested in. Happy Town, The Prisoner and Caprica also rank highly but I usually check out anything with even a passing whiff of sci fi, unless it's obviously one of "those" types of sf/f shows, eg, Past Life*.

For returning shows, I'm solid with Lost, Chuck and yes, Heroes. I love the characters so much, the show could be written by chimps and I wouldn't care. (And no I don't think it's written by chimps because chimps would be more coherent.)

V gets high marks from foreign buyers. Good news. Every little bit will help getting it to a full series deal.

Sadly, we're probably stuck with the emo vampires too.

Of the dozen series screened for clients throughout the day, it was "V," a cross between "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "Star Trek," that got the most upbeat comments from buyers, several of who termed it "highly cinematic" and "full of interesting characters."

"Vampire Diaries," a sort of "Gossip Girl"-meets-"Twilight" from producer Kevin Williamson, also got thumbs-up from international broadcasters who have a younger-skewing target audience.

Yeah, Happy Town is one which may or may not end up being an SFF series. We'll have to see how it plays out.

It's not a remake of any prior series. And really Jericho had its shot. Let it go. The post-apocalyptic sub-genre didn't start with Jericho and it won't end with Jericho.

Eleventh Hour shouldn't be in the same list as those paranormal shows. It was more like Fringe with investigations of science gone wrong, but not the weird science used in Fringe.

It was probably one of the better genre series that premiered this season.

It's such a generic concept that any network suit who would be idiotic enough to purchase it should be taken out back and shot, particularly in this economy.

Most TV shows and films have concepts that sound generic when boiled down to their basic form. It's how it plays that matters. Plus, it can be argued that the more generic a show is the more chance it has of being successful, while more esoteric shows are more likely to face early cancellation. So even if it is a generic series, purchasing it isn't necessarily idiotic at all.

Yeah, V isn't terribly original as a concept, even when it originally debuted, but I'll bet that one will be a success. In that case, it might be worth paying for the title, just for whatever name recognition carries over with it. Like with BSG.

Yep. You buy the rights to remake a show not just for the concept but for the marketing. If you promote a show as a remake of X it's an easy explanation and has instant name recognition, plus you get fans of the original tuning in initially to check out the remake. If you have to promote it as a new show then you're facing an uphill battle from the start.
