Sci-Fi Channel Special Edition Extras...

Sorry for the lack of posts on these lately... My home PC crashed so I have to dig my DVD copies back out and encode them all again. I promise to get a few up in the coming weeks!

Hey all!

Wanted to drop a post here about a project I'm doing at my blog- http://www.apieceoftheaction66.blogspot.com/

I absolutely loved all the interviews and extras on the Sci-Fi Channel Star Trek Special Editions that aired about 10 or so years ago. I taped each epsiode (though I did start a few a little late sometimes). I've dug up all the old tapes, and I'm going through and taking out all the extras and posting them to my blog for anyone who may have missed them. There's some really great stuff in there, including interviews with many actors that you don't often see (plus many of whom are now deceased). The first is up now, "Where No Man Has Gone Before"-

Check it out if you get a chance! Thanks!

Thanks, for the information.:)

Thank you for posting these. I've really kicked myself in the ass for the last couple of years for not recording all of these, just a handful. I need to edit together a video that has all of the intertitles and the cast members saying, "You're watching Star Trek on the SciFi channel."

It was neat to see that again!

If I remember correctly, Sci-Fi also did segments with Nimoy specifically for the second run-through of the series, but they may have never aired all of them. (And I thought they wanted to do a third set with DeForrest Kelly, but sadly his failing health didn't allow for that.)

Am I right about that?

Leonard filmed his host segments first, and after he was done suddenly Shatner agreed to do host segments, which he apparently hadn't agreed to when first approached.

Naturally, SciFi decided to run the version with Shatner as host for every episode first, not showing Leonard's run until the second go-round.

The story is Leonard was ticked. I don't blame him, being supplanted by a Jimmy-come-lately.

It gets better, tho'.

By that time SciFi had made such a mess of the presentation, viewership was dropping and they ended the Special Edition in the middle of Leonard's run.

Maybe a third, maybe half of Leonard's host segments never got seen. One week, he was still hosting the uncut episodes in a 90 min. format. The follwing week, the next episode in line was run without a host, in "cut for time" format, in a hour-long time slot.

If Leonard had been ticked before, I'm sure he was SO happy to hear half his work was going to waste.

SciFi never ran the Special Edition again.

:(
Yeah, that was a huge mistake on Scifi channel's part. If they have the rights to it, and are not showing it, it's a crime. But then again, that network has dropped the ball on all the other great series they used to show and now just keep on the shelves. What happened over there?

I'm a big fan of the old Scifi Channel and old TNT and AMC and Nick and TV Land. What happened to all of that greatness?

That was great! I've never seen these before, and look forward to watching the rest! I'm really surprised they have not been re-aired or released on DVD. Thanks!

I tried to get a friend who'd never paid any attention to Trek to watch it when Skiffy was running the Special Editions. She fell asleep in the middle of the episode - stretching it out to an hour and a half to interrupt it for all the "special features" stuff was enough to do in any narrative interest the episode might have held for her. Can't say I blamed her.

Good stuff!!! I've never seen these and they're AWESOME! Thank you so much for doing all this work.

Also, if you're still reading this KirkPicard, are you going to finish the Spock run?

erastus25, I will endeavor to complete at least 1 a week beginning next week. Thanks for asking!

Thanks so much for continuing. I plowed through an embarrassing number of them at work today. TrekBBS needs some sort of award for guys like you and potablog.

I always did like the segments with Michael Forest(Apollo from Who Mourns For Adonais?)and Ron Soble(Wyatt Earp from Spectre Of The Gun). I just wish that Morgan Woodward(Van Gelder from Dagger Of The Mind, Ron Tracey from The Omega Glory), Robert Brown(Lazarus from The Alternative Factor), and Michael Ansara(Kang from Day Of The Dove)had also been interviewed.

The same especially for Steve Sandor(Lars from The Gamesters Of Triskelion).
