Scariest, Spookiest Scenes in Trek

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but this scene always gets to me

Although not played as much for the creepiness factor, there's also "Remember Me", where Beverly gets to see everyone she knows disappear and nobody else remembers them even existing, and she almost doesn't figure it out until it's too late for her.

From an audience perspective it's somewhat played for laughs near the end when it's just her and Picard, but it's another episode that's a total WTF until you see things from The Other Side(tm).

That was a creepy episode because it reminded me of Twilight Zone's most blood-chilling episode, "And When the Sky Was Opened." In both cases people not only disappeared, but they and their lives were completely erased from all human memory. They never even existed at all and that's somehow creepier than conventional death.

TOS is imho not too far removed from horror. As already pointed out, it shared writers with the Twilight Zone, let alone Robert Bloch who wrote Psycho from the Ed Gein case, and who was a junior member of HP Lovecraft's inner circle. In TOS, the universe can be an horrific and dangerous place.
To the excellent sugestions anove I would add the "cosmic horror"-like Doomsday Machine and Space Amoeba which, between them killed millions and devastated whole star systems.
TOS really needed heroes who fought on against insurmountable odds and yet won. That's what imho makes them real heroes

And the neural parasites who wiped out entire planets according to "Operation--Annihilate."
