Sam Raimi & Toby Maguire returning for fourth "Spider-Man"

I'm surprised I haven't seen this posted before.

Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire are back as director and star, respectively, as are series producers Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad. Kirsten Dunst also is expected to return for the latest movie featuring the Marvel Comics character.

Also, Pulitzer-award winning writer David Lindsay-Abaire has been tapped to write a draft of Spider-Man 4. David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Spider-Man) and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) were previously attached to write the script, and had written previous drafts.

I'm so-so on the return of Raimi & Maguire. I wouldn't have had much of a problem with a new director and a new star, but I liked Spider-Man, so maybe after the debacle of Spider-Man 3 they've learned a few lessons. I'm willing to give them another shot.

On the other hand, I was excited when Koepp was announced as writer, and I hoped Raimi would just let him do his job, and not interfere in the writing process, like he did for Spider-Man 3 (I hold him accountable for many of that film's story and script problems). Then when Vanderbilt was announced, I was disappointed, but still satisifed since I thought he would do a fantastic job (I loved Zodiac ... however I'm hard-pressed to realize if the film's quality was because of his script or because of David Fincher).

Regardless, interesting news, eh?

I loved the first two Spidey flicks, and I hated the third. When I first thought of Raimi's return for a fourth movie, I cringed a bit. Then I remembered that I'm open to the upcoming eleventh Star Trek movie, despite the fact that at least half of the prior movies in the franchise sucked.

So I'll most likely watch Spider-Man 4.

Er?

He's one of my favorite playwrights. I had NO idea that this would happen for him. Weird.

I don't know how good of a pick it is. But...he's a great writer, so, it gives me hope that it's better than that thing called Spider Man 3.

I'm not a huge fan of this series, but I think I'd rather see the same people return, if nothing more than for consistency and respect of auteurship.

I could have sworn that this was posted a few weeks ago, but still good to see it back.

Are they still planning on shooting Parts 4 and 5 back to back, or has that changed?

Seen as how they made the same film 3 times already, I'm don't really see the point of another.

If I see Mary-Jane kidnapped by another villain for the climax and having Peter/Spidey shouting in slow-mo "MAAARRYYYYYYY-JAAAAAAANNNEEEEE!!!!!" I think I'll gouge my eyes out

In slow-mo?

I know what slo-mo means, :-p , I was questioning whether it was actually used.

In fact, I'll go one step further since I've already invested more time into this than I meant to: They don't use slo-mo for those moments. Tobey actually just yells it for several seconds, which I guess might make it feel like slo-mo to some.

Of course, now that we're at Part IV, it might be time to ACTUALLY use slo-mo. [cue the typical deeper, growly slo-mo voice]MARRRY JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNE[/slo-mo deep, growl voice] :D

Hmmm. Trying to raise the Spidey-bar to meet the standards set by 'The Dark Knight'?

On Raimi and Maguire returing - that's fine. I just don't want to hear Maguire perpetually whine about doing Spidey.

I'm pretty sure they did use slow mo for the first film. She falls very slowly.

The fall was slo-mo (that shot looking down at her), but they've yet to resort to slo-mo Peter yelling her name, I believe.

Am I really arguing this? I'm letting the Internet win. :borg:

Count me out.

Actually I have a friend who is a big fan, and she will naturally want to see it. That's the only way I'll go. I'm not enthusiastic. The trilogy as a whole was a lousy piece of melodramatic crapp. Taking onlythe films and not my knowledge of the character from comics, I would gather that Peter Parker is a whiner who cares more about himself and his feelings more than anyone else, and he is the farthest from a hero that I can imagine. I hated hated hated endless scenes of him pining for MJ, particuarly when they had no chemistry (many scenes have PP looking at the top of her head trather than her eyes) and the pacing of the films themselves was of the uneven start-stop variety. SM2 was decent but still overrated, because I got sick of Maguire and sick of Dunst. SM3 took everything Ihated about the second film and nothing that I liked and they mae a movie about that.

Frankly, I don't care who writes it, I've lost my faith in this franchise. I lost it from the moment SM1 started to drag on and on, only to be punctuated by the worst cartooney SFX imaginable.
