Saints Row: The Third

Oh yeah I always bring backup.

Which reminds me, in SR2 you always had homies wandering around neighborhoods you control. In SR3 they seem to only be in your cribs! I miss having the purple dots wandering around to call on at need!

That's deliberate, of course, since you're in a new city. But I'm sure I've seen some purple dots start to appear in hoods I've taken control of... Either that or I need new glasses.

You need to control a whole neighbourhood for homies to appear on the streets and that can only happen when you find/do all sidemissions in a neighbourhood...

So i bought all the stores and all the properties... that didn't get me anything! Not even an achievement!

Well I'm at 51% completition now. I have tons of money, most of the upgrades, I have the VTOL jet which is awesome (I love it makes the Transformers sound  ), judging by the walkthrough I'm about 2/3 of the way through the story.

I just realized something! There has yet to be a single car chase / racing mission in the game! There's been plenty where I've been pursued, but not one where I have to chase/catch someone. I think this is a great thing; that has ALWAYS been my least favorite aspect of the GTA/SR games!!!

Ah, you're further ahead than me now, then - I've been taking my time, just exploring and having fun blowing shit up and looking for collectibles, than rushing through the story...

Oh, and I just found, when you buy the Gang Followers 3 Upgrade, not only do you get 3 homies at a time, that unlocks the wandering purple dots in neighborhoods you own :D

And you can eventually (like around level 48, I think I'm level 27?) buy unlimited ammo and health upgrades! That is so cool! I already bought the "Show All Collectible Items on Map" upgrade. I love that it just lets you cheat if you wanna spend the money on it

And man, every single mission is just so much fun to play! Not only are they funny, they're very differentiated, and just huge in scope and activity. This is a really well done game :)

I have 11 missions left, but I've already bought almost everything and I'm a Level 41. I've been farting around, enjoying the side missions like "survival" and "gang operations". I really, really like this game! So much fun! Especially once you get the VTOL jet!

I think because of the Gang Followers 3 Upgrade, when I'm in a huge pitched battle with the bad guys, more and more Saints will show up to help me! And once you get your Followers leveled up they're pretty powerful and take care of themselves.

Kinda makes me wanna go back and play #2 again, but I'm afraid it will suffer in comparison to all the cool shit in #3!

Beat the game last night! I thought the final stage was pretty stupid, and the final boss was actually pretty frustrating in the way you have to beat him. I'll go back and play the second ending today.

I managed to hit Level 50 right before I started the end game :D You can buy unlimited ammo including grenades! I basically just toss grenades around constantly

Which ending did you play first? Save Shaundi or go after killbane? If you play save Shaundi (the Gangstas In Space ending) first, then she's still alive after you play through the kill Killbane ending, if you're continuing with activities, but if you do it the other way round, I'm not so sure...

I played the other end game mission today. Much more traditional ending, haha.
She dies in that one.

In order to get CheapyD, you will have had to unlock Shaundi's Ex-boyfriend's apartment (this comes after the assault on the armory),

Xbox 360: Download the Genkibowl VII Viewer Pack (free) or purchase the Genkibowl VII DLC Pack (560 MSP) to receive your CheapyD Homie

PS3: Download the CheapyD Pack (free) on PSN

PC: Via Steam, on January 17th, the Genkibowl VII DLC + CheapyD compatibility patch will be automatically downloaded for you

Been playing this in between Skyrim sessions and I'm pretty impressed overall. However, I don't like how they made some of what would have been considered "diversion" missions as being more contingent on obtaining territory in this new one. If there are certain things that are extremely difficult to do and are not involved with the primary plot, you never get the territory. I find the "gameshow" segments particularly irritating. I can kill all the targets but not ever get enough points to finish it before running out of time. Aside from that, it's definitely a worthy successor.

A couple of hints and tips that I've found, that don't seem to be mentioned in any guides or on the SR wiki so far:

Don't bother answering your cell to do Survival missions until you've got a tank - which makes them easier and more fun.

This I've definitely not seen mentioned anywhere, and I discovered it by accident (when trying to abandon ship as part of one of the hitman missions where you have to take someone for a one-way flight)- You can vehicle-surf on the "Vulture" chopper (the Mi-24) if there's a homie aboard to take over when you exit! If someone else is aboard the Vulture with you, pressing the exit button makes you climb out and stand on the nose, not just jump out and fall as normal...
