With Saints Row coming out this tuesday I just thought I would start a thread for those as excited as I am for the third game in the series.

I can't wait to explore an all new city and see what kinda absolute crazy shit I will be able to get up to.

These games, while not as detailed or perhaps as deep as GTA, have always been a pure riot of fun. Really looking foward to tearing through the streets and sky of Steelport on my very own purple flying motorcycle!

    Saints Represent!

SR2 was probably my favourite game that year, so I'm really looking forward to it. I think the fact that you can play as a woman adds so much charm to the series, especially since the franchise seems to both celebrate and parody the misogyny that is inherent in any depiction of a criminal lifestyle.

I had great fun with the demo; you can make your character naked with pixelated interesting bits. :techman:

I'm extremely excited but don't expect to be getting it this week for a simple reason:
in 2007, my wife bought me the first one for Xmas
In 2008, my wife bought me the second one for Xmas
In 2011... I think I see a pattern here, and so don't really want to trip it up!

The Heaven related cheat in SR2, IIRC, made bodies float upwards into the sky after you kill them

Well unless this game drastically changes, I have to say this third version is pretty much ruined IMHO. I've just played through the bank vault scene and the skydiving scene and it's NOTHING like what I remember SR being. I'm totally disappointed with it.

    Plenty of OTT mission, tongue-in-cheek...

Well I'm not sure OTT is a good thing.

Dude, Saints Row 2 had an activity where you drove a septic truck around town and sprayed shit all over the place, and you're complaining about The Third being over the top?

Actually my complaint is that it seems nothing like the first two in terms of gameplay. I'm hoping that changes drastically once I get past these first two missions because as of right now, I don't even recognize the franchise I'm playing.

It's pretty unmistakably Saints Row. Don't worry.

Er... you know this is Saints Row and not GTA, right?

Well I don't remember it being totally crazy before and I always had a good time with it. But the OTT is not really what I was talking about anyway in terms of gameplay feel. I don't recall the game every having such a linear feel to it, previously, as I recall, it was GTA in game play mechanics. So far, this has not given me any freedom to do anything other than play the mission assigned to me. That's what hit me right between the eyes as being totally different from the first two.

Well I finally got to play a little more tonight and it seems to be settling into more familiar territory. I guess I just wasn't expecting two whole missions to set up the game (and I REALLY REALLY hated that skydiving mission.)

As I was playing the 3rd mission, I couldn't help shake the feeling of a cross between Modern Warfare and GTA. But after that mission, I finally got a crib and then it seemed more like what i remember.

Yeah, SR 2 started with the prison escape mission, so there's still that element of linear intro then letting you loose on the new setting.
