Sadly official: The Simpsons may never die

In a new interview, co-chairman of 20th Century FOX Teleision said this, after saying they are renewing TS:

And as far as “The Simpsons” goes, that show can probably stay on the air as long as Jim Brooks and that cast continue to want to produce it. It continues to deliver great numbers and feel creatively alive.

JUST LET IT DIE ALREADY!!!

It's been an empty ant eaten husk for over a decade. They couldn't just let it die, oh no, they had to cuts it a thousand times and let it bleed slowly. They they poured ants on it. Then they pissed on the bones. Right now they are humping the eye sockets.

Who cares?

I got tired of it around 1999... so I stopped watching.

Others do still enjoy it. More power to them.

Yup. The cast doesn't seem interested in stopping anytime soon and that's really the big factor for the show continuing.

My sentiments exactly. I haven't watched it in ages, but others still do, so more power to 'em.

I really just don't care one way or the other.

The thing with The Simpsons is that it may lose its audience entirely but it always manages to replace it with a completely new one who enjoy it the way it is when they jumped on.

Don't you understand ANYTHING about TrekBBS? Successful TV shows that you don't watch are a more serious threat to your life than terrorism!

It's the true advantage of the episodic television I suppose. Especially with comedies, since plots are even less important.

The Simpsons is the ultimate in episodic television, they purposefully contradict themselves on a regular basis.

The only downside to the Simpsons going on this long is that when it reruns in syndication, they tend to favor the newer episodes. So the odds of me turning on a Simpsons rerun and happening to catch a good episode have dwindled down to almost zero by now. And I'm not motivated enough to go out and rent DVDs of the earlier seasons.

You know what I hate is that other animated fare seems to only go to a magical syndication episode number,65 eps, and then stop. I'm looking at you Justice League and The Batman.
Yet the Primetime toons just keep going and going and going.
I've never been a Simpsons full time watcher and probably haven't seen a new to air episode in 10 years. More power to those who watch it and enjoy it but I hate that the toons I like and are good and get good reviews and numbers up and commit suicide over this 65 episode number when clearly they could continue.

Simple solution for all:

If you still like it, watch it.

If you don't, STOP WATCHING IT. Don't turn it on, don't come back here to bitch about it, let the people who do though enjoy it in peace.

I still, after all these years on this board do not understand the fanboi desire to whinge and bitch. Really. I can't stand Grey's Anatomy, therefore I do not watch it. I also, however, do not go out of my way to make threads about how bad it is, nor do I drop in to the weekly review threads to bitch and moan about it. Live and let live. There was nothing more aggravating or juvenile than those last few months when Enterprise was on between the offical cancellation notice and the finale's airdate. All those self-righteous non-Enterprisers made their presence known, bitching and whining and complaining about how terrible each episode was, how they could have done better, and how the show deserved to be cancelled.

Now, putting aside the questionable, subjective issue of 'quality' aside for the moment, it was just really pathetic. I mean, what was the point? Really? To stand there jumping and screaming "I TOLD YOU SO! SEE?" I mean, who the fuck are these people? Four-year-olds? That goes for the "Craig not Bond" people --- oddly, there was a lot of crossover membership as well. Just pathetic.

Again. If you don't like the show, stop watching it. If you do, keep enjoying it. Myself, I don't particularly care for the Simpsons as much as I once did. Haven't watched regularly in almost six or seven years. But that's me. I say if there are still people who find it funny, entertaining, or relevant, more power to them.

If given the option of terrorism or a new episode of the Simpsons, I choose terrorism every time.

Wow, so they are going to keep it going on and never stop.

I am a Simpsons fan by the way and I don't mind if it kept on going.
