What was wrong with it for you? To me it was complete fucking rubbish like most of RTD's output, but I'm curious as to why you'd single that over stuff like Journey's End or Love and Monsters.

Heh, VOTD is, by a long way, my favourite of the specials...

i hated all the fucking christian imagery with Ten ascending in the arms of the robot angels at the end.

other than that it was mediocre.

Love and Monsters, i don't despise because i liked the story idea. it's just the end of it with the paving slab i don't like.

Really? I couldn't watch the Silurian episode, turned off before the end of part one and didn't watch part two. When I came on here it seemed everyone was raving about that episode, so I'm glad to finally find someone else who hated it, too.

I thought it was incredibly lame, Part 2 especially. They tried to make it seem so incredibly important, and it ended up meaning nothing...except for the very end where poor Rory got sucked into the Crack, which had absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the episode.

It's a very tricky thing to do really because the big thing about RTD for me is that on the whole his episodes can vary wildly during their length (love and monsters being the classic example for me utterly brilliant and utterly terrible at the same time)

Doctor Who's default setting isn't outright stupidity. Just the RTD years.

No. The BBC chose RTD to bring the show back. Without him we'd have got someone else, probably someone much better.

That two-parter was an a absolute disgrace, because not only was it complete rubbish, but it was also an insult to the classic Pertwee story (one of my top 5). Anything approaching a good idea was taken from that (or, oddly, Frontios), and everything else added was utterly stupid. Chibnall should face criminal charges.

What is the hate here? I've noticed quite a few people stating they don't like Boom Town. I didn't find it that bad, except for The Doctor having any remorse in sending Blon back to her planet to die...give me a break. When she started the whole "who can look me in the eye" thing, The Doctor should never, ever have a problem confronting evil. No matter the insipid-liberally-slanted personal beliefs of the writer.

The hate here is the total lack of logic (well, and the Slitheen being crap, dodgy acting, etc) displayed in building the whole episode around the preachy dinner scene where we're battered around the head with "the death penalty is evil and therefore the Doctor will never choose to send someone to face it, even when there's no evidence whatsoever that the lying mass-murderer who's claiming she'd be executed is actually telling the truth anyway."

And the really fucking stupid cop-out ending as well...

Okay, then THAT I can understand. I felt the same way about that stuff, but was able to enjoy Christopher owning every scene he was in...

See, I never got that from Eccles. Quite separate from my dislike for his Doctor, I often got the impression from his acting that he hated having to do it. It makes his standout performances (Dalek especially) all the more standout, because you could tell he knew he was glad not to be doing rubbish like World War Three.
