Russell T Davies yes/no

(in spite of the biased thread...
Why's it biased?

Anyway, because I'm sad with no life and intrigued to see if I'm still the forum RTD hater (well, you never know...), here's the like percentages so far:

captcalhoun - 96%
Kelso - 96%
RoJoHen - 96%
Canadave - 92%
Steve Mollmann - 92%
Silnet Bob - 88%
Alidar Jarok -84%
Count Zero - 84%
Sci - 84%
Pseudo - 80%
McIntee - 80%
Hanukkah Solo - 76%
Dennis - 72%
The - 68%
Bacl - 52%
Timby - 44%
Bones - 20%

Not counting the entries since this summary, that means the average score is approximately 76.71%.

Hm. I'm only an 84%? I'll have to remember that next time someone accuses me of worshiping RTD or being RTD's boyfriend 'round here. ;)

the only one i really despised was VOYOTD.

What was wrong with it for you? To me it was complete fucking rubbish like most of RTD's output, but I'm curious as to why you'd single that over stuff like Journey's End or Love and Monsters.

Heh, VOTD is, by a long way, my favourite of the specials...

i hated all the fucking christian imagery with Ten ascending in the arms of the robot angels at the end.

other than that it was mediocre.

Love and Monsters, i don't despise because i liked the story idea. it's just the end of it with the paving slab i don't like.

Cool thread idea. :techman: "Meh" equals yes, but just barely.

Rose - yes
The End of the World - yes
Aliens of London/World War Three - no
The Long Game - meh
Boom Town - yes
Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways - yes
The Christmas Invasion - yes
New Earth - meh
Tooth and Claw - yes
Love and Monsters - no
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday - meh/yes
The Runaway Bride - no
Smith and Jones - yes
Gridlock - yes
Utopia - yes
The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords - yes
Voyage of the Damned - yes
Partners in Crime - yes
Midnight - YES
Turn Left - YES
The Stolen Earth/Journey's End - yes/no
The Next Doctor - meh
Planet of the Dead - yes
The Waters of Mars - yes
The End of Time - meh

though the Dalek and Silurian episodes were abominations

Really? I couldn't watch the Silurian episode, turned off before the end of part one and didn't watch part two. When I came on here it seemed everyone was raving about that episode, so I'm glad to finally find someone else who hated it, too.

I thought it was incredibly lame, Part 2 especially. They tried to make it seem so incredibly important, and it ended up meaning nothing...except for the very end where poor Rory got sucked into the Crack, which had absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the episode.

Sounds like fun. I'll give it a go:

Rose - Meh
The End of the World - Yes
Aliens of London/World War Three - Yes
The Long Game - Meh
Boom Town - Yes
Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways - Yes
The Christmas Invasion - Hell yes.
New Earth - Meh
Tooth and Claw - Yes
Love and Monsters - Yes
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday - Yes
The Runaway Bride - Yes
Smith and Jones - Yes
Gridlock - Yes
Utopia - Yes
The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords - Hell yes. To both.
Voyage of the Damned - Meh
Partners in Crime - Yes
Midnight - Hell yes.
Turn Left - Meh
The Stolen Earth/Journey's End - Yes/Meh
The Next Doctor - Yes
Planet of the Dead - Meh
The Waters of Mars - No
The End of Time - No

Ok I'll bite :)

Rose - yes
The End of the World - yes
Aliens of London/World War Three - no
The Long Game - yes
Boom Town - no (though it almost gets a pass for the wonderful scene between the Doctor and the Slitheen at dinner!)
Bad Wolf- No, the reality tv stuff's taken too far
The Parting of the Ways - yes
The Christmas Invasion - yes
New Earth - GOD No (possibly the worst thing he did with Who)
Tooth and Claw - yes
Love and Monsters - no (though this is perhaps the toughest one to call because some bits of it are brilliant but in the end the bad just outweighs the good for me)
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday - yes
The Runaway Bride - no
Smith and Jones - yes
Gridlock - yes
Utopia - yes
The Sound of Drums- yes
Last of the Time Lords - no
Voyage of the Damned - yes
Partners in Crime - yes
Midnight - yes
Turn Left - no (never quite seen the love for this, Tate is brilliant but that's all it has going for it- derivitive kind of show every sci fi series seems to have to do)
The Stolen Earth/Journey's End - yes (thought the first part is significantly better)
The Next Doctor - yes
Planet of the Dead - no
The Waters of Mars - no
The End of Time - yes

Bones, if I've mucked up your percentages by splitting up the two parters apologies (overall badwolf would get a yes and last of the time lords a no if that helps)

I didn't think RTD wrote Planet of the Dead btw?

It's a very tricky thing to do really because the big thing about RTD for me is that on the whole his episodes can vary wildly during their length (love and monsters being the classic example for me utterly brilliant and utterly terrible at the same time)

Rose - Yes
The End of the World - Yes
Aliens of London/World War Three - Just barely no
The Long Game - Barely yes
Boom Town - Yes
Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways - Yes
The Christmas Invasion yes
New Earth - just about yes
Tooth and Claw - just about yes
Love and Monsters - Yes
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday - Yes
The Runaway Bride - Yes
Smith and Jones - Yes
Gridlock - Yes
Utopia - Yes
The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords - yes
Voyage of the Damned - I think perhaps no
Partners in Crime - Yes
Midnight - yes
Turn Left - yes
The Stolen Earth/Journey's End - Yes/Meh
The Next Doctor - No
Planet of the Dead - Meh
The Waters of Mars - yes
The End of Time - Possibly scrapes a yes.

I will say I'm in the middle of watching series 2 again and I'm finding The Doctor and Rose terribly annoying, though I've always thought they were in series 2. I can see why it took me so long to warm up to Tennant now.

Rose - Yes
The End of the World - Yes
Aliens of London/World War Three - Yes (but it has flaws)
The Long Game - No
Boom Town - No
Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways - Yes
The Christmas Invasion - Yes
New Earth - Yes
Tooth and Claw - Yes
Love and Monsters - Yes/No (liked the premise, terrible villain)
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday - Yes
The Runaway Bride - Yes
Smith and Jones - Yes
Gridlock - Yes
Utopia - Yes
The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords - Yes
Voyage of the Damned - Yes
Partners in Crime - Yes
Midnight - Yes
Turn Left - Yes
The Stolen Earth/Journey's End - Yes
The Next Doctor - Yes
Planet of the Dead - Yes (but sluggish at times)
The Waters of Mars - Yes (but unsatisfactory as the "Time Lord Victorious" story)
The End of Time - Yes

I don't utterly love every "Yes", but they all managed to keep me well entertained and on the edge of my seat. I totally agree with RTD being completely over-the-top, often melodramatic and sometimes nonsensical, but I'm perfectly ok with it.

Rose - Yes
The End of the World - Yes
Aliens of London/World War Three - No
The Long Game - No
Boom Town - Yes

Partners in Crime - Yes
Midnight - Yes
Turn Left - Yes
The Stolen Earth/Journey's End - Yes
The Next Doctor - Yes
Planet of the Dead - No
The Waters of Mars - Yes
The End of Time - Yes

Some of the Yes's are flawed, some of the no's have their fun points (the no two parters usually both have one better part).

Rose - No
The End of the World - No
Aliens of London/World War Three - No
The Long Game - No
Boom Town - No
Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways - Yes and No
The Christmas Invasion - No
New Earth - No
Tooth and Claw - Er... yes... maybe...
Love and Monsters - Same as Lonemagpie on this one... Yes for the script
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday - Yes and No
The Runaway Bride - No
Smith and Jones - Yes
Gridlock - No
Utopia - Yes
The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords - No
Voyage of the Damned - No
Partners in Crime - No
Midnight - Yes
Turn Left - Yes
The Stolen Earth/Journey's End - No No No
The Next Doctor - Yes
Planet of the Dead - No
The Waters of Mars - No
The End of Time - Big F-ing No

Largely "No" though there were some good scenes in some of the "No" stories. So, at the end of the day, yes, he's a hack. ;)

Doesn't it ever bother you when a story's complete nonsense?

This is Doctor Who ;) remember.
Doctor Who's default setting isn't outright stupidity. Just the RTD years.

Oh, errr: ;)
Without him the only new Doctor Who adventures we would get to enjoy would be books or by Big Finnish.
No. The BBC chose RTD to bring the show back. Without him we'd have got someone else, probably someone much better.
What was wrong with it for you? To me it was complete fucking rubbish like most of RTD's output, but I'm curious as to why you'd single that over stuff like Journey's End or Love and Monsters.

Surely turning the Doctor into Jesus at the end of LOTTL and forgiving the Master is more Christly. I didn't get that vibe from Voyage at all. Just some shiny gold Baftas.
Cool thread idea. :techman: "Meh" equals yes, but just barely.
Meh's cheating. But I'll count it as a yes if you really want. Even though meh should surely be a no :borg:

That two-parter was an a absolute disgrace, because not only was it complete rubbish, but it was also an insult to the classic Pertwee story (one of my top 5). Anything approaching a good idea was taken from that (or, oddly, Frontios), and everything else added was utterly stupid. Chibnall should face criminal charges.
Bones, if I've mucked up your percentages by splitting up the two parters apologies (overall badwolf would get a yes and last of the time lords a no if that helps)
Aiight.
I didn't think RTD wrote Planet of the Dead btw?
Cowritten with the similarly untalented Gareth Roberts.

Good eh.

What is the hate here? I've noticed quite a few people stating they don't like Boom Town. I didn't find it that bad, except for The Doctor having any remorse in sending Blon back to her planet to die...give me a break. When she started the whole "who can look me in the eye" thing, The Doctor should never, ever have a problem confronting evil. No matter the insipid-liberally-slanted personal beliefs of the writer.

The hate here is the total lack of logic (well, and the Slitheen being crap, dodgy acting, etc) displayed in building the whole episode around the preachy dinner scene where we're battered around the head with "the death penalty is evil and therefore the Doctor will never choose to send someone to face it, even when there's no evidence whatsoever that the lying mass-murderer who's claiming she'd be executed is actually telling the truth anyway."

And the really fucking stupid cop-out ending as well...

Okay, then THAT I can understand. I felt the same way about that stuff, but was able to enjoy Christopher owning every scene he was in...

Good Lord, The is a bigger RTD fan than me

Oh and I don't mind Gareth Roberts, some episodes better than others but he's a solid enough writer.

See, I never got that from Eccles. Quite separate from my dislike for his Doctor, I often got the impression from his acting that he hated having to do it. It makes his standout performances (Dalek especially) all the more standout, because you could tell he knew he was glad not to be doing rubbish like World War Three.

I realise he is wholly untalented, but let's leave his weight out of it :)
