Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

I really hope they play this as straight and dry as possible with no hint of fun just to subvert expectations.

Captain- I am Captain John Straxton of the starship Odyssey. We need help repairing out hyperdrive.

Where are the Red Shirts?

I count nine infants in that screen cap. I'm sure they weren't all on set at the same time and that there were dummies on hand for certain scenes. That being said, that's a lot of parents/nanny's on hand to help keep things under control; and a director who is comfortable working with babies.

Plus factor in that each baby character would have been played by twins or triplets.

Two thoughts occur after seeing the new trailer:

I'm now figuring the dinosaurs scene is probably just s single scene and/or part of montage segue, probably connected to the accidental stepping of the prehistoric insect, thus setting off a deliberate butterfly effect. I know I set myself for grand expectations but it seems unlikely, even with Disney money, that we would get a full episode with dinosaurs. Which probably means accurate history and geography is going right out the window (again, I know I'm in the vast minority who actually cares and I know I'm nitpicking...).

In regards to the multiple instances of fourth wall breaking in both trailers, I now wonder if this is deliberately just for marketing, not unlike Janine saying her famous line in the Ghostbuters: Frozen Empire trailers and then not showing up in the film (granted there is a lot of missing material from the trailers but I still think that one was never intended to be in the film). I could be wrong and Davies is exactly the person who break the fourth wall for a moment or two (or for the entirety of an episode for a specific reason), but I wouldn't be surprised if it's just for marketing.

And in case anyone is curious I, Claudius is up on YT, watch it and see how many non Brian Blessed actors you can name from being in Dr Who......i am up to episode 4 and saw Kevin Stoney from Revenge of the cybermen hidden under a beard and hat as a soothsayer who was nearly thrown down a cliff for his poor predictions.
He plays the same role in The Caesars and I Claudius.

Just pretend it's TNG, where it's the "gold shirt" syndrome now. :nyah: :guffaw: But, yeah, the 24-bit palette of RGB has 16,777,216 hues and that's circa 1997. Onscreen there are shades of two. The static photo only tells so much, of course, and of those proverbial thousand words, how many accurately tell the forthcoming story?

No Beatles music in the Beatles episode. Guess Disney money only goes so far!

Ironically, the classic series used Beatles music and footage, because the BBC can just do that — it just then can’t put it on home media (or, I suspect, streaming) so had to edit in either other songs or covers. So they *could* have had an episode full of it, but only been able to do it the old fashioned way.
I’m also fairly sure Ringo at least would still be up for a cameo. XD

edit:
Oh, and you can absolutely have a ‘live’ performance in there with *less* hurdles, as it’s not a recording being licensed. It’s part of why Strictly can murder anything they like, and why Jonathan Ross could do the same with his ‘Four Poufs and Piano’ before Aunty wisely got shot of him.

I'm not sure if it's crazy or not that RTD is writing practically the whole season. On the one hand given rumours about how heavily he rewrote much of his first run I guess maybe he just decided to cut out the middleman this time, but on the other hand the show does need new and different voices, and given of the two episodes he isn't writing one of those is Moffat who, much as I love that he's back, can hardly be seen as a new voice, that leaves 1 episode in 8, or more correctly as Rich says, 1 in 12!

I was hoping that Maxine Alderton might return, or even Vinay Patel. I hope that once we get sight of some of S15's episodes we'll discover that the writing range is broader.

Can't fault RTD's work ethic mind you.

It's crazy.

He's a great showrunner and character writer but he's *cough* not exactly the best sci-fi / fantasy writer.

My hope is that he'll step back to oversee the wider Whoniverse before long and do less writing.

Given the lower episode count, the need to work as a relaunch and to establish the slightly different tone they're going for it was probably quicker than rewriting other people's scripts.

But that's done now, so he's only doing half of them next year, or slightly less if Moffat really is doing the Xmas Special.
