Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Even Martha came back for a total of 5 episodes in season 4 plus a Torchwood appearance, NOT counting her cameo at the end of Tennant‘s first stint.

Two seasons is average for companions. If Ruby does indeed leave after her second season, it won't shock me in the least.

Think the problem Doctor Who is facing in this day and age in terms of casting is either getting some well known actors who are also demand for other things or it but the spotlight on them the leads to big opportunities for them so they move on.

Hmm, Millie is currently off enjoying the sun in Costa Rica while Ncuti and the crew are freezing their bums off in Cardiff.

Now obviously it could be just the way the dates shook out, but thinking about the one S15 episode she was involved with, Ruby is seen living on Earth with a boyfriend, so it could be a guest spot like Freema in S4.

Bit dangerous making so much so far in advance — no way to react to how things are working with the audience, or wider concerns and real world context.

The point is, though, that creative changes, including last-minute ones, are made all the time. Initial ideas can change at any point in production or new ones can pop up that can change an entire narrative of the original story (I present Exhibit A, one George Lucas). What might have been initially conceived as something minor can become more relevant if inspiration hits or that particular something becomes suddenly popular with audiences.
I would assume Hartnell may have suggested it so Camfield would have a camera on him. But the surprised reaction from Purves and Marsh in the telesnap suggests he did it privately, so only the director knew.

So all the tabloid headlines today are about Millie being axed/ dropped/fired from the show, even tbough there's nothing unusual about her length of time (albeit with fewer episodes).

They should have been leading on this story from the moment Millie casually announced in an interview that she was looking for work. Instead the BBC hating press gets to control the narrative again.
