Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Disney have released a new trailer that is mostly stuff we've seen before; except for at 35 seconds where you can clearly see Mel in the background of the shot in the outfit from her publicity photo. Oops!

I do wish I could travel back in time to 1986 and tell 14 year old me that Bonnie Langford would become a major part of a revived series in the 21st century just to see the look on my face.

I wish I still had my Mel action figures. They might go up in value.

Alex Kingston has said she's holding on to a big Doctor Who spoiler that should be revealed by the end of the year.

Almost certainly going to turn out to be something to do with Big Finish* but then there are those three mysterious minisodes coming up.

*How cool would it be if they got Kate Winslet to finally play (an alternate universe) River. By all accounts she enjoyed doing 'Dark Season' with them, and had a much bigger role in it than I think anyone expected.

It still feels so bizarre to be typing this but first S15 location shooting is happening today in Central Park, New York. Or rather, a bit of Cardiff standing in for it.

(Surprised they didn't head to the real one, since they could afford to go 11 years ago.)

It's kind of a redundant comment at this point but another new outfit for the Doctor.

And having only just been in New York recently, I have to say they found a convincing stand-in location.

Make it so?

Edit: It might actually be Timothy West instead.

So they seem to have been shooting a few different things. Stuff in New York today and now scenes in the UK (during a WWII air raid) tonight.

And now we know what the mystery six day project was...

Tales of the TARDIS, a series of minisode/documentaries where classic Doctors and companions meet in-character to discuss past adventures

Well, that's kind of the least exciting thing I could have imagined. Which isn't to say they'll be awful but it's hardly "Night of the Doctor" times six. More like a quick introduction to a repeat of the story in question.

BBC - Tales of the Tardis - Episode guide

I hope these are made with a sort of framing narrative so they work as canon/stories in themself. The Jo/Clyde one certainly suggests it, but Colin isn’t in costume, so I wonder.

Official photos.

The set looks like a pretty cheap mish-mash of random Tardis parts, so I'm wishing people who want to make these canon good luck. (Funnily enough you can see the jukebox from the leaked set designs for the new version in the background of the Sylvester & Sophie one.)

I don't recognize Sylvester McCoy at all. He looks more like Robert Morley than Percy Kent-Smith, and Morley's been dead thirty years.
