Retconning the Timeless Child would require an officially established Canon, which, as I've stressed several times in the past, Doctor Who doesn't have.

Even if RTD never touches on the revelations surrounding the Timeless Child, said revelations will still forever remain a part of the proverbial toybox that is Whovian Lore and therefore available for somebody to take out and play with at their own discretion.

And some fans remembered RTD's TV series Queer as Folk, in which one of the main characters lists the actors who've played Doctir Who and ends on Sylvester McCoy. The other asks, what about Paul McGann? And they both say in unison, "Paul McGann doesn't count."

The whole "That makes them half human" bit in "The Parting of the Ways" didn't help matters any.

If anything, like how the half-human bit was alluded to in Hell Bent, I could see Davies alluding to the Timeless Child in subtle ways as he did with other aspects of the Doctor's past (had a brother, was a dad, etc).

Quite right. I really do think some fans have really short-attention spans, poor memory, or simply refuse to see how the past played out. All of this has happened before and all of this will happen again.

I was always more partial to Hazel O'Conner, and can imagine Capaldi playing Eighth day as he regens. ha

I saw Chibnall at Gallifrey One last February. He was chatty, funny, and self-deprecating. He came across as a very likeable person. Not at all how I pictured him from the limited media interviews.

At one smaller event, I was sitting next to him, and we had some really good laughs. I even complimented on various parts of his run that I enjoyed. For instance, bringing back the Classic Doctors in the Centenary Special (which wasn't the original plan).

I say all that even though I was not a big fan of his run. My friend and I were discussing what to make of this new (to us at least) Chibnall. We decided we can like him, but still not like his run. But we both thought he was a very likable person.

(One interesting thing we learned from him was that he and some other writers were working with George Lucas to develop something Star Wars related for HBO. That never came to pass but he did spend a lot of time with Lucas and others at his ranch.)

Personally, I'd like the Timeless Child to be contradicted. My guess is that, at most, it will be ignored. But I have to admit it does open the door for stunt casting one-off specials featuring celebrities playing various forgotten Doctors.

I think Chibnall understands what a lot of comic book writers know - you get to play with the toys, but you still don't own them.

He probably went full out with the Timeless Child story because he knew in the long run it wouldn't matter. Someone at some point would come along to retcon it, or ignore it or some strange combination of both. Bet he had fun with the story while it was his, though.

No, I'm not surprised it could happen in a general sense. For instance, I also find Colin Baker to be a very friendly, kind person based on personal interactions even though his Doctor ranks very low for me. There's the clear distinction between the artist and their work.

I'm surprised in this specific case with Chibnall based on interviews. We definitely got the wrong impression! I guess the impression we had was that he was a very closed, non-communicative person. But he was the opposite in person. It goes to show the problems with limited information!

Not my cup of whatever but people have been going crazy today over leaks about a Doctor Who - Fortnite event coming up. (I can still understand that it's a big deal, though, when you look at the other crossovers they've done.)

They seem to be getting round the fact that none of the main characters are going to be shooting anyone by making UNIT a big part of the event. (Also gets people primed for the spin-off that they have to be officially announcing soon.)

My uncle feels the same way. Well, he's never actually met Colin Baker, but he says from interviews CB seems like a really nice and likeable guy, while my uncle ranks the Sixth Doctor low on the grounds the character is "an extremely unlikeable jerk."
