Haven't seen the finale, but wanted to pop in here to say that Billie is quite obviously Sixteen; RTD is just keeping his narrative secrets secret and playing with fan/viewer expectations this time around.

They know the reaction that casting her as the Doctor would elicit so they'd damn sure be tying to get past it ASAP by trying to sell it as good idea, rather than leaving it hanging until Christmas 2026. (Assuming it ever comes back.)
Billie is/was one of the most popular Companion actors in the show's history. Bringing her back plays into that, but not as "cynically" as David Tennant's return appeared to.
The end of "The Name of the Doctor" did the "Introducing John Hurt as The Doctor" bit.
IIRC, the fact that John Hurt was a Doctor was never in doubt, as there was the "Introducing John Hurt as the Doctor" thing right there on screen. The vagueness came in trying to determine where he fit in amongst the Doctors, with fans theorizing he was an incarnation between McGann and Eccleston, or between Troughton and Pertwee, a possible future Doctor or even a pre-Hartnell Doctor, perhaps even the Other.Yes, but he was also vague in the press. Moffat is a troll at heart.
Then you don't get a say until such time as you have.Haven't seen the finale,

The Doctor regenerated into Billie Piper, so she pretty clearly is The Doctor, it's just sounds like there's going to be more to it than the usual regeneration.
Plus she said she's only back for a one-off appearance.
I can't imagine Piper will be the "de-facto" Doctor for long, if she even is the Doctor. But, what is fucking annoying is that RTD went for the jagular Stunt Casting, instead of actually ending the episode on a cliffnhanger that actually cast doubt as to who the Doctor would be.So, assuming Billie Piper really is just a one off, or an intentionally limited run like Tennant's second term, how soon before BBC assembles its conclave to select a newPopeDoctor?

Unless she is Rose.As mich as I don’t think it’s a good idea yet, I think it would be even worse if they wriggle out of making Billie the Doctor.
Let them sleep in the bed they made and have her be the Doctor for at least three seasons!
I want to see her being completely different from Rose.
Oh, and also, this would finally end everyone characterizing Jodie as “The woman Doctor”.
Now she is not the only non male Doctor anymore, and people have to start using her actual name.
She’s no Amy Pond.
