Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

OK, so this is cool. The puppet head that appears on the UNIT monitors is actually Stooky Bill, who appeared in the first ever television image transmitted in the UK.*

Which was round about when some of the scenes shot for the Specials were set. Plus Russell said that the man seen entering the Toymaker's shop in the Christmas Day trailer was someone famous. People assumed he meant that actor but what if it's actually John Logie Baird buying the dummy from his shop...

Corporate wants you to find the difference between these two pictures.

There are also also posters from the set that confirm the month and year

So the middle episode is the one we're not allowed to see anything of so presumably the one that might (might) feature past Doctors?

Apologies if this has already been mentioned but there's a theory going around that
the Toymaker (if he is the Toymaker) is going be a stand in for toxic fandom, an omnipotent watcher who's reset the Doctor to a time when he enjoyed watching the character more, which seems very meta given RTD's brought Tennent and Tate back, but maybe that's the point? A meta story inside a meta story? You're confusing the Meta!

Yeah I saw that theory but it does seem more like wishful thinking to me. Plus it ignores the fact these was created as a one off celebration before Russell ended up returning full time.

While I wouldn't put it past RTD to make jabs at fandom's less pleasant side, the Absorbaloff after all was based on Ian Levine, I kind of hope this isn't true all the same since meta commentary on fandom just feels really done. And besides, the kind of fan who needs to see that message is the kind of fan who won't realize the story is a message aimed at them anyway.

Thinking of Mysterious Special II or "Wild Blue Yonder" as we can start calling it, I'm assuming it will revolve around our heroes trying to who is screwing with them, which certainly opens the door to a trip through the series' past.

Also, I recall Russell saying that when he saw "Power of the Doctor" there were ideas in it that matched up with his own plans. Add to that the way Tennant is called The Edge Doctor in the leaked 'Fortnite' script and I think we could be heading back here again.

Now I have zero interest in celebrity gossip but I note that Ncuti (and Groff) were hanging outwith Beyonce after her concert in Cardiff last night.

I only bring it up because while we've had Doctors who were famous as actors before, we've never had someone with this type of fame, and it does make me wonder how long he'll be willing to stick in the role, while turning down potentially bigger opportunities that might come his way.

I can't imagine his agent will have tied him in for too many years but I imagine it's more than one year because that'd be foolish on both sides.
