Russell T Davies on Carlyle going to SGU

Carlyle won't last long in any case. If the series gets passed two seasons, I doubt he will.

Russelty Davies is a hack who wouldn't know good Sci-Fi if it punched him in the face.

I bet he doesn't like Stargate because they rejected his fanfiction he submitted as a script.

RTD doesn't "hate" Stargate... My guess is that is was a joke that fanboys of course take to literaly. If he even said that (I learned not to believe quotes in papers).

On RTD:s site there is a quote about stargate, though:

Why doesn’t the TARDIS visit more alien planets?
“It’s fascinating, this area. I get letters saying, ‘You can go to a forest, you can do this...’ Actually I’m not sure that you can... I don’t watch things like Stargate closely and I laugh when I look and they’re in the same forest again. And I’m not knocking the programme: there’s nothing else they can do. They’ve got a format where they have to go through the portal to an alien planet every week.”

Nothing controversal said there really, though.

Even though i like both shows i feel who is better written then star gate and i must admit to being puzzled on how they got Carlyle and i wonder if the show makes it to 5 seasons will he still be with them.

''bu..bu..but stargate doesnt have any gay welsh people! i dont like it!''

yes the man who inflicted torchwood on the world criticising a much better show.

What the hell? Wow his career must be shot to pieces if he's willing to do trash TV like SGU.

Joking or not...it does come off as rather bitter. Since it was a radio interview, I wonder how it sounded. That can make all the difference.

Honestly. It's a joke about Carlyle's reputation vis-a-vis the tone and prestige level of Stargate, and how agents are obsessed with their clients' image. You don't have to dislike a show to be realistic about the way business-minded types might perceive it. It is probably hard to judge Davies' tone if you're not familiar with his sense of humor and persona, but I don't think he'd actually bash another SF show- not unless it would stir up a press controversy, at least.

Hmm...I bet if Mazzolli or Wright or someone on the Stargate staff jokingly made a crack about Dr. Who, angry fanboys would be all over them ready to burn their houses down and salt the Earth afterward.

Considering how even the worst season of nuWho (3) was better than any season of Atlantis I think RTD is on the right track. Then again, maybe SGU will be good. But I don't have my hopes up.

He can't talk, with som of the drivel he has written for Dr Who in the past few years.

It's like I said, he doesn't write Doctor Who, he writes Doctor Who fanfiction, and because the BBC have put him in charge of the series, he has free reign to turn his crappy drivel into "proper" scripts.

Letting a fanboy write professionally for their fandom is never a good move. Want more evidence? Star Trek: Nemesis was written by a Star Trek fanboy and look how that turned out.

:brickwall:

And the new Star Trek movie was aslo written by fanboys so it should suck as well? I don't think we need another round of Stargate VS Doctor Who. :klingon:

Should I point out the reality that it was directed by a non-fan, and is often criticized because of it? Ronald D. Moore was a huge Star Trek fan before he started writing for the series, and I don't see any problems there.

I haven't seen more than five minutes of the new Doctor Who. My gripe isn't over that. My gripe is over your argument. In answer to your question, yes, I want more evidence. You'll need a lot more if you'd like to prove anything.

It's not the fanboys that'd be the problem, it's the fangirls. They'd write Mazzoli/Wright slash fanfic. :D
