RUN-OFF POLL - The Heroic Finish!

Well, it had to happen sometime: we had a tie! And not just a tie, but a 3-way tie! Out of 9 entries, all of whom received votes from their peers, 1/3 of them had identical top scores! That says something about the caliber and the appeal of the entries in this challenge (for which I take no credit - but thanks for making my challenge such a success, guys! :bolian: ).

Now, in the interests of fairness, it's time for a run-off vote. B.J. has withdrawn from the run-off, having won recently and graciously giving the chance to two for whom this would be a first-time responsibility - don't forget, the winner gets to set the March challenge! Heady stuff!

If you already voted, or if you somehow managed to miss the poll altogether, now is your chance to help decide the final winner of the February Hero Challenge. This time, you will be able to vote for only one entry. The moderator will not vote in this poll unless there is another tie - for that reason, this poll will reveal each voter's choice, so you can see that this is true (so consider that before voting, if you prefer not to have your vote shown).

Biff! Pow! Bam! Vote!

Albertese. I like some of the cover stylings on "Marauder Mo" - the comics code symbol, company logo, and so on - but I think the artistry of the actual characters is better on "Captain Federation".

Plus, I'm intrigued by the hottie. Why is her Starfleet delta upside-down? Who is she, and where did she come from? I must ... know ... more!

(We need a smilie with a Shatner toupee.) ;)

Yeah, that's more or less how I look at it, too. I love both of these entries. Both ideas are very creative. But I think Albertese's entry shows a little more skill in the actual realization. I voted accordingly. ;)

I guess it's upside-down because she's from another ship.

How would one recognize it as such?

Thanks! The hottie's arrowhead is upside down because she is from another ship. And I didn't mean it to, but it actually turns ut to be the Pontiac logo. Oh well.

So, if she's Captain Federation's sidekick, and she's from the Pontiac, can we surmise that her hero name is "Firebird?"

BTW, Albertese, check your PMs ... ;)

Which is appropriate, since Patrick Stewart did voice overs for Pontiac.

Ladies and gentlemen, superbeings of all ages, we have a winner! In the closest competition we've had in quite some time, and after a tie-breaker vote, Albertese has come across the finish line faster than a speeding phaser blast. Congratulations, Albertese - great job, and we're looking forward to what you have in store for us in March.

Congratulations also to Shawnster - first for tying, and then for running a very close race in the tie-breaker. And kudos, too, to B.J., who earned a spot in the tie-breaker but chose to sit out. I guess he took "the needs of the many ..." to heart ;). Truly a scholar and a gentleman, I think he is officially ¡El Sombrero!. :techman:

Thanks to everyone for participating - I was especially happy at such an enthusiastic response. It was a lot of fun, and we got a great variety - exactly what these challenges are about. Well done, all!

And now, Albertese, the floor is yours ...

Fellow Trekkers, we have come to the end of a long journey. The people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly. I congratulate Albertese on winning this fun contest.

In a contest as long and difficult as this campaign has been, his success alone commands my respect for his ability and perseverance.

OK, enough plagerizing a Presidential concession speech...Congrats Albertese! I thought it was interesting that I found new surprises with your entry each time I looked at it.

Thank you for making my first time entry so exciting.

Hey guys, thanks! It was a pleasure to win one! You know, it's funny, I think I must be dyslexic. This whole time, somehow my brain tricked me into thinking the top bar on the poll was Shawnster and the bottom bar was me, and I was all ready to write a gracious concession speech -- er... post, when I suddenly realized I had actually won!

I really did like the Marauder Mo cover. In fact, I voted for it on the first time around. "Still only 35 strips of latinum." Beautiful!

Now, as this is the first time I've ever won I'm not quite sure what to do from here. I'll start a new thread entitled "March Art Challenge" and if I screw something up, hopefully our fearless leader Ptrope will guide my hand.

Cheers!
