The year is 1800 BC. A group of Mesoamerican people known as the Mayans record look to the heavens. They make astronomical observations, record data, and create extremely accurate calendar that predicted the coming of eclipses and the revolutions of Venus to an error of one day in 6,000 years. The Mayan astronomical observations were carried out by simple measuring methods yet yielded the most accurate astronomical data of any pre-Columbian civilization known to modern man. The Maya were quite accomplished astronomers. Their knowledge, acquired of a course of 3,000+ years, would pass down through the ages of mankind and as mankind continued to develop an insatiable thirst for astronomy, the desire to travel into space grew stronger and stronger.

Fast forward to the year 2387. If the Mayans had only survived and made it to the 24th Century. What great wonders would have awaited them: starships, space stations and outposts, planetary colonies, and unimaginable alien races of all kinds. From humanoid species like the Betazed and Bajorans to cybernetic ones like the Borg, the ancient Mayans would be in sheer awe of the technological advances that made space travel and the discovery of new life forms and civilizations possible. And just think!... We owe it all to their astrological legacy.

MASS EFFECT UNIVERSE

In the year 2148, explorers on Mars discovered the remains of an ancient spacefaring civilization. In the decades that followed, these mysterious artifacts revealed startling new technologies, enabling travel to the farthest stars. The basis for this incredible technology was a force that controlled the very fabric of space and time.

It is decades later. 2199. Humanity is a fixed member of the Citadel Council, standing side-by-side with the Turian Hierarchy, Asari Republics, and Salarian Union. The most powerful organizations in the Terminus Systems have founded the Confederacy of Rogue Systems, a conglomerate of fascist states, pirates, and criminal organizations. They seek only to extend their power by whatever means they can, prompting conflict with the Systems Alliance.

With the council desperately trying to keep the situation in the Terminus from spiraling out of control, the Confederacy begins to splinter and fight amongst itself. Mass Effect Universe is a forum-based roleplay, set in the fictional universe of Bioware's critically-acclaimed Mass Effect video games. Our site has tens of thousands of posts, and hundreds of members, and after two years of activity is still running pretty hot. Getting started is an easy affair - unlike Trek Sims, which most of you may be used to, you don't apply for a position in a crew, which then goes through episodic adventures. Rather, you create characters, which once approved, can be used in a pretty free-form fashion - roleplay with anyone, anywhere.​

If you're a fan of the Mass Effect games, I would highly reccomend this - I've been a member since 2008, and while there have been lows, there have been tons of highs. And even if you're not a huge Mass Effect fan to begin with, the universe is pretty easy to pick up, being roughly analogous to Star Trek + Babylon 5 = Awesome. Starbase Bravo-a Star Trek Post-Nemesis Spacedock-Class sim with a twist of H.P. Lovecraft…

Starbase Bravo was built in orbit around Raeya III, far from the comforts of the Alpha Quadrant. Its mission- promote peace, commerce, and liberty in the Raeyan Sector- the crossroads of the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, and a dozen other interstellar powers. Diplomats come to negotiate, merchants come to trade, explorers come to discover, and drifters merely wander through. They have come to Starbase Bravo to forge lasting peace and prosperity, but all also have their own agendas…

The final test of a revolutionary propulsion system that held the promise of venturing beyond our galaxy instead opened a doorway to madness. It slashed open a seething ribbon of space, known as The Scar. Garbled messages from the past, present, and possible futures, and messages in unknown languages are heard in its constant subspace static. Ghost ships appear and fade near it, and time flows in strange directions. The Scar's opening has driven some mad with the single desire to enter its maw, and they will stop at nothing to succeed. Cities of the Ancients, dead and covered in the dust of eons, are suddenly awakening from their long slumber, with purpose unknown. Starbase Bravo struggles to keep the curious and The Called away from the Quarantine Zone around The Scar.

Things will never be as they seem on the surface and things won't always end well for us. In the year 2381, the BORG invaded the Alpha and Beta Quadrants with a Collective campaign not of assimilation but total annihilation. The Federation and its allies mounted a desperate and ultimately doomed attempt to stem the BORG tide. If not for the intervention of an unknown species called the Caeliar, the BORG would have completely destroyed every inhabited world in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. As a result of the invasion, over 63 billion lives were lost and dozens of worlds were decimated or left in ruins. Starfleet, who bore the brunt of invasion, was severely weakened having lost 40 % of ships and personnel.


Now 6 years later, much has been done and the reconstruction effort continues but the Alpha and Beta Quadrants had been changed forever. Desperation and piracy have run rampant. Alliances have been strained and new ones have been forged.

The Raeyan Sector has become a key source for the materials and resources needed for the rebuilding efforts of the quadrants. Makkus IV, home to approximately 150 million beings, has become a waypoint for freighters, cargo vessels and other crafts from nearly all corners of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. Makkus IV has become a place where entrepreneurs and profiteers come seeking to profit from resource rich Makkus system.

The Federation and Starfleet are tasked with the security of this vital system. Echelon Station does its part to keep the peace and protect Federation interests in the Makkus system.

My apologies if I'm putting this in the wrong area, but I'm looking for a chat-based RPG. I have about, oh, 11 years of experience, and used to run my own sims. I was pretty big on the old AOL sims (man, those were the days). I used to run an entire Academy whereby I'd teach people canon technologies, responsible simming, and so forth. So I'm pretty well versed.

I'd like to get back into it, but it seems most sims are message board now. I'm not interested in that at all. Just looking for chat. Preferably canon Trek, and I want it to be challenging. None of this "everyone is half telepathic, half telekinetic" junk.

Star Trek: USS Terra Nova

The year is 2378, three years after the conclusion of the Dominion War. A small Starfleet presence exists in a distant part of space -- well beyond Federation borders. They're on the frontier. Cut off from Earth. No communication with home. They're on their own. For now.

Hey there. If you're looking for a fun Trek Writing experience, then Vanguard is probably for you. we are a new community with one sim open and looking to expand slowly. We favor quality over quantity, and good storytelling over everything else. I've been a part of some great sim sites in the past, and some no so great ones, as I'm sure we can all relate to. What I'm trying to do here, is take everything that I've learned and creat an environment where a bunch of trekkies can get together and tell their stories without having to worry about things like OOC drama or ranks or task forces. I simply want to writesome trek. At Vanguard that's what we're going to do.​

As far as organization, it's going to be really simple. There is an Admin or two. what that means is that we update the site and keep things running. on that end. We also set things up for potential sim leaders. Then of course there are sim leaders. They facilitate the sims. And then there are members. They write. There isn't a hierarchy here. Just because a member happens to be a sim leader doesn't make him or her superior to a member. Same with admins. The goal here is to have a site where everyone contributes and plays as equals. No hidden forums... No Admiralty..no cliques... no drama. Just fun.​

Speaking of no Admiralty, when you sign in, I encourage you to register with your real name or a nickname of your choosing. This will help seperate you from your character. I'm not Nathan Benjamin after all, my name is Justin and I'm a completely seperate entity from the young commanding officer that I write on Vanguard. This also helps us eliminate the need for multiple accounts and keeps the boards cleaner. There is always room in the signature area for multiple character sigs!​

OOC that's pretty much it. Got a great idea for a character? Want to run a sim? Just want to join another community for Trekkies and Trekkers? Now for the story.....

The Black Cluster is an area of space in the Gamma Quadrant that is home to dozens of species. It's a densely populated area that remains largely unexplored by the Federation. This is about to change. The 2nd Expeditionary force, commanded by Admiral Teron Gav of Trill has been assigned to explore the region and set up a base of operations. The Chara Confederacy, led by the Allixi are wary of the Federation's presence. One of the member races however, the outgoing Arielians have allowed Starfleet to set up an outpost in their area of space. A nomadic group of traders lacking the powerful ships of their Chara Brethren, they have much to gain from a strong Starfleet presence in the area.

In addition to the Allixi and the Arielians, there are dozens of other races in the sector, many of them pre warp. Starfleet's mandate here is to explore, and establish good relations with the Chara Confederacy and the other unalligned people in the region.

Star Trek "Nation" Sim


I'm just here letting everyone know that a Star Trek nation sim is currently in the works and looking for new players.

For those who are unfamiliar with nation sims:

A nation sim is traditional a forum based RPG game where you are Role playing a country in a simulated world along with dozens of other players. Everyone is plagued with the problems their real life country faces and must use the limits of realism to solve them by writing actions that are sent to an Avater (moderator or admin) who processes the actions affect.

This Star Trek sim is basically a spin off of a Nation Sim as you don't really control nations, rather a planet as part of a larger "nation" (IE, Federation, Cardassian, Klingon, Dominion, ect.) The timeframe we have chosen this round is just prior to the Dominion War (basically the Cold War leading up to it) so there will be plenty of action involved.

I know it isn't eveyone's kind of game, but some people may find it interesting, so I'm just here to share. In order for games like these to work there needs to be an active player base. If you have any questions regarding the game, don't be shy, ask me.

Who Is Interested in a Highly Organized Post by Post Star Trek DS9/NG RPG?
-Okay, NOW I am advertising! But this is mainly here to see who is interested in Role Playing-

Overview
This would be a fourm where you'd go and write, in character, of your own made up personality, or, if you'd so integrally indulge yourself, post as a cannon from the series of NG or DS9. That means Dukat, Data, Sisko, Warf, Dax, O'Brian, Kira, Odo, Nog, ETC, ETC, all within the realm of the Star Trek universe.

Most of all, you'd have a lot of fun trying to play out your actions, fight, and discover 'new' things within the Star Trek Universe, new battles, and anything else you can fathom.

What a Post by Post RPG is
It's where you write out a post IN CHARACTER of the character you are representing, be it a character you made up, or the cannon you are playing, and await a response in the thread in which you posted in.

Think about it;YOU are apart of the story! YOU make the story WITH other people! It's fun, simple, and quite addicting when you have a wide arrange of people involved! Plus you will learn greatly as you write!

How You Get Involved
For starts,you simply make an account and debrief yourself on the rules of the game, hosting fourm, and edict/regulations of it all (in play rules [for example, no god-modding], common rules [for example, no racial insults towards a specific person or ethnic group]) from the webmaster who created the fourm. You make/fill out something called a character sheet, get approved, and start to play.

When This Fourm Be Activated And Available
From this date, I estimate in a time span of one to two weeks if anyone is interested. So, before or around March 17th, 2011. When this fourm is completed and ready to recive members, I will post the link in this thread, as well as my profile.

2. Do you have any questions that I can help you with or help you better understand? If so, please post them and I shall respond within one to twenty-four hours.

I eagerly await anything you have to ask or say. I can promise you this; this RPG fourm will not die like countless others that I have seen that are set in Star Trek with only five members. With your help and with your interests at heart, it will most defiantly fuel it.

The year is 2384 and the newest Starfleet vessel is almost complete. Many anxiously wait for the launch date when the ship will be ready to take its brand new crew on its maiden voyage. The USS Infinity is a Sovereign-class ship equipped with the latest technology, though it's first missions will be humble ones as its new crew and new captain are tested. Many say it is destined for glory; there is no doubt that the Infinity will make a name for itself and the crew chosen to command the greatest ship the Federation has ever seen.

On Earth, Starfleet Academy continues to churn out the best and the brightest and many of those have their sights on this new ship, eager to become a part of its crew while they can. They come from all countries in the world, all corners of the universe, with high hopes and grand dreams.

Starfleet is still designating the crew of the Infinity, even in these final weeks leading up to its departure. There are some veterans from other ships, but most are new graduates of the academy, green and untested.

Only the best will be given the chance. Will you be coming on board?

Cardassia Prime RPG

I'm hoping that 'Trek Gaming' is the right place for this. I have a group that I'm working to get writers for, it's called Cardassia Prime and takes place in 2370.

The group was inspired by The Never-Ending Sacrifice by Una McCormack (a great book if you like Cardassians and culture)
