Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watch?

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

I watched the recap on the morning news, no way I was getting up at 1 AM for something I barely care about.

I was just flipping through the channels though and saw Sharon Osbourne speaking live from London on The Talk, and she looked terribly wasted. She was swaying back and forth on her chair and putting strange pauses in her sentences.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

Thought I'd get away without seeing any royal wedding, but the wife's insisting on watching the rerun from 8:30-10. Bollocks. Still, amusing to see Wills' "do I have to sit through this crap" expression during one of the Archimandrite's speeches.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

btw - I was reading about the Queen Mother on wiki last night and it told about how she lay her bouquet on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Abbey. The article says that all royal brides since then have also done it.

Does anyone who watched the ceremony know if Kate did it? And if she did, did she lay her bouquet on the tomb on her way in or her way out?

thank you! :)

She didn't. The tradition I believe was started by QM (according to news here) and now it's accepted that bouquets of Abbey brides are placed NEXT day.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

Oh... :( I was hoping she'd actually do it on her way in, just like the Queen Mother did. Oh well, I guess the whole throwing the bouquet tradition is too important these days.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

I ended up watching the entire wedding.

You're right, she did not. I remember when her and Will got to Buckingham Palace. Will got out of the carriage and then put out his hand to help Kate out of the carriage. If memory serves, then instead of handing him her hand, Kate gave him her bouquet to hold instead. :guffaw: He handed it back to her once she got out of the carriage. I remember the commentators saying that she had a number of identical bouquets inside the palace. If the one she used during the wedding starts to wilt then she can use one of the duplicate boquets for the wedding photos.

^Thoughts?

I loved every minute of it. William was dashing, Kate was stunning, and it was enjoyable to see so many Royals (of which I have little knowledge, to be honest) gathered in one place. It was fun to see the Queen (I really admire and respect her).

This was my first real view of Westminster Abbey, and it was an amazing edifice. I loved the pomp, loved to see so many happy people together in one place. It was neat to see a high def view of Buckingham Palace and that whole area surrounding it. Lastly, but not in the least, I loved the balcony kiss and their exit from the palace. All in all, it was very well done.

So the wedding was quite an experience, and I wish William and Catherine all the best. They're good people, and have a genuine love for one another.

I'll grant you the bride looked good (well, nice tits, looked confident, I wouldn't kick her out of bed, you know). Wills was very quiet saying his lines, but so was I whenI got married, so that's good.

The commentary said they'd known each other for a decade, so that's maybe a good sign for them lasting.

Love the Aston

I can has real programmes nao?

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

I had no intention of waking up to watch the royal wedding, however after a very restless night and waking up much too early...

I must say it was memorable, though much different from Charles and Diana's wedding. This wedding had a more intimate or informal atmosphere; it seemed less 'stuffy' even though all the formal dress and protocol were there. I like that Prince William intends to keep working as a search and rescue pilot. I respect their decision to live as normal a life as possible, without servants and staff. When his service is up, he will obviously take up his royal duties full time.

Both brothers have become a positive asset to the royal family by working real jobs while raising awareness- and funds- for so many charities.

The wedding was on in the late afternoon here where I am so I watched it after I got home from the movies. They do put on one heck of a show. The couple do look very beautiful and Kate's mum is pretty cute herself. What were those ornamental things on the ladies' heads, especially that thing on (Beatrice's?) head- that H like sculpture?

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

The sooner we dump these scroungers and get an elected head of state the better. Good to see this wedding was smaller than Chaz and di the next will be smaller as they continue to be less and less important. We paid for the wedding I guess we will have to pay for the divorce too...
The revenue generated by the wedding (tourism, worldwide ratings, etc.) likely more than made back whatever tax money went into paying for it, so I don't know why you're complaining.

The first hi-def royal wedding :) And agree with all observations...

The impression I've got from forums here is that this wedding is both post-Diana and informed by her. Diana was last of the 'arranged' royal marriages...someone not really equipped for role or 'in love'; just married for 'heir and a spare'. But she outgrew that and redefined herself as modern empathetic Royal. Her son and Catherine have adopted her legacy; accepted the 'pomp' legacy but are different having had long relationship and laid down clear markers they are inheritors of Diana approach to modern Royalty...

But let's not forget other world events...tornadoes in southern US, Syria, etc

On a slightly different note, I'm sorry, what was on Princess Beatrice's head?

I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I was just watching it, and suddenly it cut to Beatrice, and I was like.... Wht?

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

I watched the BBC America channel this morning for the live version and it didn't seem like there were too many references to Diana. However, my mother DVRed the ABC channel and we're watching it now and I think they're talking more about the 1981 wedding more than the one today. It's kind of annoying, actually.

Being a staunch monarchist I was annoyed with Barbara Walters.

[One of the things that drove me nuts was Barbara Walters kept referring to HRH The Duchess of Cornwall as Camilla Parker-Bowles!!

It is bad enough that we don't call her the Princess of Wales but to refer to her as if she has no title at all did bother me.

Plus after it was announced that Catherine would be known as HRH The Duchess of Cambridge Barbara Walters said "oh we'll still call her Princess Kate." Grrr

I am a bit of a stickler for the correct usage of titles and incorrect usage of titles bugs me.

On a positive note the ABC coverage did show many foreign royals coming in (King and Queen of Norway, The Duke and Duchess of Brabant, The Prince and Princess of the Asturias, The Prince of Orange and Princess Máxima. Although they showed them coming in they didn't mention it on TV.

ABC introduced some people... though I didn't flip around too many stations to compare. As an American I was pretty clueless. There were not many people I recognized in the church.

I DVRed it and watched it this afternoon. What a lovely, enjoyable wedding.

We need a little fantasy and escapism every now and then and the wedding fit the bill for me perfectly.

I wish the couple best of luck and think that they have a good shot at lasting.

But - Beatrice - WTF was that ugly thing on your head? :D
