Root of all the ENT bashing/hating?

And from what I recall they did try to play it off at first, if not directly deny it.

That's the way I remember it, too.

Seems like it was around season two when Berman admitted he just pointed at the Akira design (among a group of other designs) and said "Use that one."

T'Pol had a couple of problems. One, she was given the "alien learning to be human" storyline that has been absolutely done to death on Star Trek.

Worse, she was "logical alien learning to be human without any real basis for being so."

Two, starting in the third season, she became a physical weakling. As a Vulcan, she should have been at least as strong, if not stronger, then any human male on the ship.

Don't get me started.

And finally, B and B used her as their sexual lab rat. It's a credit to Jolene Blalock that she managed to navigate through all the crap that B and B threw her way and make an interesting character out of T'Pol

I think the reason Jolene didn't show up was not the shite that she was showing solidarity with any actor, but more she hated what happened to T'Pol. And she should've. Her character went to hell in a hand basket.

A lot of the bashing (and I agree with Vulcanian - it's really called criticism) of ENT I believe is grounded in truth. Since the beginning, people "bashed"
* there aren't enough ties to TOS
* the plots aren't interesting
* the characters aren't given the love they deserve

I think all of those are fair. And although season 4 covered the first complaint more than adequately (which creates new complaints - like "why was there so much TOS!"), the others were really never addressed.
This pretty much sums up why I never got into ENT. I think the potential was there for ENT to be a really good show. All the show needed was to maintain good writing, make the characters interesting and push the prequel and 'strange new worlds' concept without going all fanwanky.

ENT rarely did any of that.

I watched VOY, but I'm not gonna lower my damn standards a second time.

Sorry, that was not the case. They were claiming that they were using what they considered a "popular design with the fans" before the TV Guide article that contained a fold out of the NX-01; and this was 2 months before the first episode aired. He'll the whole 'Akiraprise' stuff started even bofore the article. They were always up front with were the design came from. Again, it wasn't B&B denying or admitting this, it was the SFX production crew who designed the model.

Well, I was going by memory -- and it sounds like I'm not alone in remembering it that way.

Unless you can cite to some authority, I'm going to assume that you are relying only on your memory, as well.

And assuming arguendo that your memory is correct, a "popular design with the fans" could mean pretty much anything.

It could mean "something that looks vaquely reminscent of NCC 1701" or it could mean "we pretty much just took one of the designs that already existed in the computer from another series and hit cut and paste."

Until you can cite to authority, we are all pretty much using the unstable foundation of our collective memories (and the obligatory agendas that are incorporated into them).
