It's just too bad this vertical model was never built for TNG or perhaps DS9 to enrich the Romulan fleet...
This vertical D'D is, unfortunately, just really, really uninspired--unlike its source material, which is the single best-looking vessel in the Trek oeuvre.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but was the D'deridex the only class of Romulan ship we saw fighting during the Dominion war?
Well, I'll grant that. Although I'm fonder of the original (if audited) D'D. It's hard to say if I'd like the verticalally oriented one as much as the horizontal one if it had gone through without change, however...This vertical D'D is, unfortunately, just really, really uninspired--unlike its source material, which is the single best-looking vessel in the Trek oeuvre.
Well there's the thing, it's not an 'uninspired' rehash of the original D'D, it was quite possibly what the D'D was going to look like anyway.* Studio/production reasons are why we got the horizontal one instead and only now are we seeing the vertical one in the calender.
Does this design have a name?
*I'm sure I've seen design sketches someone posted here somewhere of the 'vertical' warbird from the original concept art for TNG when it was in pre-production. Anyone know where they were posted?
