No. It was always fine. Now it's interesting in a different way. There was nothing that needed fixing, but it's still fine now.
The exhaust port was not only not a plot hole, it was not addressed by Rogue One at all. Erso's sabotage was to do with the reactor, he never mentioned the exhaust port in any way.
Yes, the fact that the DS was so easy to blow up has been brought up pretty consistently by a certain contingent as a "plot hole." I never said I agreed with the idea, just that it has popped up pretty consistently whenever someone feels like picking apart the OT (usually in response to someone else picking apart the PT).
I know, that was my point. The Rebels figured out the exhaust port on their own. Galen had nothing to do with it.
I don't think it is a terrible idea to explore but it is definitely a fanfilm sort of idea to build a movie around it, which is the point. That is very true. In all honesty, I thought that addressing this and making it the main plot of Rogue One was a neat idea. I'm one of those happy-go-lucky fans who mostly like what they see. It has to be pretty stupid for me not to derive some enjoyment from it, and in defense of the entire SW series, I don't think the vitriol some of the movies get is warranted.
But it's okay to make fun of silly plot elements, of course, and the Death Star thing does get mentioned a lot in this context.
It does seem to be the heart of Rogue One.I don't think it is a terrible idea to explore but it is definitely a fanfilm sort of idea to build a movie around it, which is the point.
Rogue One was in essence a fan-film - most of the cast were new, one-off, characters, the big name characters make small cameo appearances, the story is about a tiny slice of an event, and there's lots of splashy pew-pew. But that's ok, as Star Wars has a LOT of fans.I don't think it is a terrible idea to explore but it is definitely a fanfilm sort of idea to build a movie around it, which is the point.
There fate was predetermined by dialogue from A New Hope. It isn't like they couldn't be used in comics or films, but it was clear that anyone directly connected with stealing the plans was dead already. Otherwise Vader would have been after them, or their would have been other ways to find the Rebel base and or get the plans to the Rebellion. Since Princess Leia was Vader's only link and the Alliances only hope for getting the Death Star plans to the Rebellion, that kind of seals the fates of the Rogue One team before they even became a concept.
How inconsiderate.Yes, I keep forgetting about that crawl at the beginning of "A New Hope". Thanks a lot Lucas.
Oh, right, true.^He also says "Several transmissions were beamed to this ship by rebel spies. I want to know what happened to the plans they sent you!"
