Roddenberry's Regeneration

Now, why the hell did the guy who preceded Daniel Jackson at trying to decode the Stargate change his name to Lucius and take up residence on a planet in the Pegasus galaxy? For that matter, why did he leave his political staff job in New York to become a philologist/cryptographer/whatever?

Oh, you mean Richard Kind from the Stargate movie! I thought you were talking about Ernest Littlefield (Keene Curtis) from "The Torment of Tantalus." As it happens, the young Ernest who appeared in flashbacks was played by Paul McGillion, who later became Dr. Beckett on Stargate Atlantis -- and was the guy who told Chris Pine's Jim Kirk that he wasn't allowed on the Enterprise. (After losing the part of Scotty to Simon Pegg.)

And sorry, Therin, but you're mistaken; Earth II was not a Roddenberry production. You must be mixing it up with Planet Earth.

Ooopsie. Well, I did check Hartley's roles on IMDb, but it gave me a bum steer, 'cos I didn't think she was in "Planet Earth" (which I forgot wasn't called "Earth II").

It's just that I noticed Hartley was a Yeoman in "Shore Leave" and found it funny that they brought the actress back to play Zarabeth in season 3.

You need to start reading the credits. Or IMDb. ;)

Lets not forget that Michelle Forbes got the role of Ro Laren following her phaser-edged performance as an alien in an earlier Trek episode. Mariette Hartley was quite well known at the time - I remember he being in a Hulk movie too. Emily Banks though - I don't know why she wasn't around more - she was really cute! Maybe she did a lot of stage work or wouldn't put out to the producers - who knows!

I think Phase II would have given Chapel more to do. When that was nixed and the Motion Picture met with mixed reviews I think they deliberately sidelined Gene (and Majel by association). I think it was Nimoy's influence as director that saw Chapel and Rand come back in their cameo roles.

Our ST club used to get annual (or so) updates from the Roddenberrys, and when ST II was being made they sent our newsletter press release that said that Majel had told Harve Bennett she was unavailable for a Dr Chapel appearance, as a protest for Gene not having more involvement with the movie.

When the medical costumes for TMP (updated and reused in ST II) were sold off by "It's a Wrap!", there were a few ST II costume elements with Barrett's name on the tags, so it's possible they were prepared for her to cameo in ST II until she pulled out. (There is a dark-haired female extra as a doctor in a sick bay scene, but it's not MB.)

Yep. Personal invitation from Director Nimoy for GLW in ST III and IV, and for MB in ST IV.

GLW appears in ST VI thanks to a surprise audience poll at a big ST convention, narrowly beating out Bruce Hyde (as Riley), IIRC. It was conducted as a pre-publicity stunt for that movie.

I'm not THAT bored, thanks.

It's called checking your facts. Admittedly, doing it in a hurry can lead to mistakes, as I proved earlier, but it will prevent you making some errors such as the ones you made as to which actress was which.
