Rockne O'Bannon

It's a crime that Farscape has been largely forgotten. It elevated Sci-Fi to the juggernaut that it became, and now you don't see the Firefly-level loyalty that other canceled shows get.

Farscape has'nt been forgotten, so much as it reached a plateau. Scapers achieved a great victory when they were able to convince TPTB that it warranted a resolution.... hence the Peacekeeper Wars. Sure there are potentially more stories to be told, but reaching that one great point has satisfied most people

I honestly think it could be fun to see what O'Bannon would do with the Doctor Who franchise. A few years ago I interviewed him for a panel at a convention in Chicago. He struck me as a man with good vision and a willingness to explore new ground and let people use their talents.

What? Is Terry Gilliam unavailable?

I'm not sure about O'Bannon on Who but he should be put on some series for sure.

It would be an interesting, if unlikely choice. I think Farscape has quite a few similarities to Doctor Who. Ben Browder once said during a radio interview in the UK, where he also said he loved the new Doctor Who, that Farscape is basically Doctor Who on crack.

In any case, I think we have Moffat until at least 2013 and whatever 50th anniversary spectaculars he is planning. After Moffat, my guess is that the next showrunner will be either Toby Whithouse or Mark Gatiss, as they have the sort of showrunner experience that would be needed. Matthew Graham is another possibility, but he has his own production company so you would think he would be busy running it and making dramas for it.

He's not British, but I don't care anymore. He needs Moffat's job.
What?

What?!

True. Still, imagine this show with O'Bannon at the helm.
What?!

Okay, Farscape was good... but it wasn't that good. And it was a show for geeks. Complicated, far out, big concepts. It wasn't for families. Wasn't for kids. Dr Who is.

I don't think Farscape made SciFi, I would have put that down to Stargate.

I do agree O'Bannon should have a new show, and I wouldn't mind an episode of Whop from him. But no, not in charge.

Stargate did not make Sci Fi. Stargate went to Sci Fi during Farscape's prime. Stargate had been on Showtime for years.

I stand by what I said. O'Bannon's done family-ish sci fi before.

Australis tell me how "Complicated, far out, big concepts" created by O'Bannon are less accessible than the complicated, far our, big concepts shilled by Moffat.

I say bring back Phillip Hinchcliffe, he's far better suited to the job of running Doctor Who than O'Bannon ever could ever be.

Because they wanted to make Tremors. It was cheaper. But Farscape was their flagship show when they were the number one network on cable. That's a fact.

I know that Rockne created Farscape, but how involved was he with the showrunning after that? He wrote "Premiere" and... Peacekeeper Wars.

Meanwhile, fellow executive producer David Kemper wrote 16 episodes (including all four season finales), plus Peacekeeper Wars with Rockne. His contributions to the show's success seem obvious. Rockne... not so much.

I would love to see Rockne write an episode of Who...I don't know that he would be a greater showrunner over Moffat, and I'm a big "Farscape" fan. Who would certainly be fun under him though.
