Robots

Ok I mean if these are Starfleet robots I hope they don't have quirky personalities. If they are alien robots I guess that's okay.

If they have the sort we supposedly saw in the new movies, quite humanoid but quite possibly devoid of any sort of personality, perhaps they will be used in lieu of redshirts? And perhaps the loss rate from this show makes Starfleet Accounting put an end to that practice?

Maybe Discovery will be about the "Robot Revolt of 2255" and explain why Kirk's era is seemingly devoid of any man-made robots or automation.

Snake! Snake! Snaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake!

I'm actually curious if the robots will be part of Discovery.... or part of the discovery. If you catch my drift.

Why does Star Trek even need robots? Hopefully we don't have talking robots with personalities, that would be very off putting, at least to me.

I guess I'm mostly concerned about complex, sentient artificial intelligences in the Federation before TOS, when in TNG and later they were seen as extremely rare, valuable, or revolutionary, or otherwise "special".

I know "robots" is a very broad term and could mean anything from assembly line arms to bomb disposal drones to walking tanks, but the first thing it made me think of was Star Wars-like droids used as gimmicky annoying sidekick characters, or Data ripoffs.

Dude, what? Not a Data fan, I take it?

In the TV shows, except for the first year or two, he and Riker were always my favorites in the latter years of TNG. I really liked the episode Masks, if that says anything. But Data didn't translate into the movies very well, to me at least. And for the most part, Hollywood writers don't know the first thing about AIs. I'd just as soon any "AI"s they use, they use as they have in the past, the ships computer systems.

They now exist and are becoming exponentially better all the time so why wouldn't or shouldn't they be around in the future... do you think them just a fad?

The captain has a 23rd century Roomba (that explains why we never see the janitors)

Or we might see children on this ship, one of whom has a robot companion.
