Robocop appreciation thread

I love it, its so cool. The designs, eg ED209, the satire and the philosophical subtext, its as good as sci fi or any other genre gets. I really like the way its a quest for identity as well as an action movie. Robocop 2 is nowhere near as good but its still entertaining. There's no need for the 2010 remake though.

Well I used to think the EXACT same way you do. But! If they get the right people I think a remake/reboot will be as much a classic as the original!

I think its physically impossible though. I mean certain films or pieces of music/art/writing etc just hit on something so perfect that they can only be rivaled by something different but never rivaled or excelled by what they did at the time. So in other words terminator 2 rivals ghostbusters as a great film but a ghostbusters remake will never rival or excel the original.

^I'm with you, john titor. Robocop captured the zeitgeist of the moment as well as the immediate future, a post-Reagan mood that questioned the materialism of the go-go 1980s. And it pushed the envelope in graphic movie violence in the same way that Sam Peckinpah films and Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange pushed those limits. And let's face it, the final showdown between Robo and Ronny Cox is hard to beat! -- RR

Anybody else notice that ROBO'S data-spike, shoots out from the ''middle'' knuckle?:p

"Can you fly, Bobby?"

"See, I got this problem. Cops don't like me. So I...don't...like...cops."

"Just give me my fucking phone call."

"I got the muscle to shove enough of this factory so far up your stupid wop ass that you'll shit snow for a year."

And of course, the classic all time line;

"Bitches, leave."

Clarence Boddicker...one of the all time best cinematic bad asses.

The first one was cool.

The second one had some amusing elements but was suprisingly crappy considering it was directed by the guy who did The Empire Strikes Back.

After that, ick...they should've let it die.

(I never saw the mini-serieses.)

Best Sci-fi action movie ever IMO.

I like the outrageous violence during the killing of murphy and the ED-209 slaughter. It's a good flick for parties I've found, it's gripping and hilarious at the same time.

"Please put down your weapon, you have twenty seconds to comply"

This movie is great and I can watch it over and over again. I think a remake is a silly idea and won't hold a candle to the original.

I liked all three, although is various degrees. The first is my favourite, but the other two are also entertaining.

You can always tell the quality of a film by the number of memorable quotes it has!

I like that line bitches leave. Its so stoneage yet funny because of it.

The final scene is great because it resolves the film so well on a sad/optimistic note, excellent writing in it too.
