Roberto Orci want both Shatner and Nimoy in Star Trek 3

I was surprised to read that Shatner couldn't come up with any idea of how to get him in the film. I would have thought that he would have been one of the first to have an idea. That being said, if Orci has an idea that can get the two of them on screen together, I would to say to both Nimoy and Shatner - just do it the way it's written. I, for one, trust Orci enought that if he has a plan to get them into the current storyline, it's probably a good one and makes sense in the story that's been written.

I'm starting to fear that this movie is going to turn into 2 hours of fan service with a contrived way of getting Shatner in at the expense of the story.

Basically Generations again with 3 times the budget.

Don't think I don't love the guy - I do. I just wish they'd let it go.

On the board I was not (no longer functioning) there were calls for a boycott (yes, a word that was used here too) and calling to write to Abrams and Paramount over other material deemed offensive or dishonest, such as Khan being white, Alice Eve in underwear, and things like that.

Did the same people write to CBS over T'Pol's nude scenes in ENT? Or Picard not actually being French?

Yeah, at this point I think someone on Orci&co's behalf told him on purpose to create hype and manipulate the fans to gain our response to it

I'm just puzzled by people over trekmovie who always criticize the reboot for copying TOS because they can't do their own thing or because the plots are sloppy and lame and there is no character development...yet, they are now asking them to bring back Shatner and waste screentime for a mindless and forced cameo of a character that should be dead. Just another proof that people hate the reboot only because it isn't their trek and now want to essentially use the success of these movies for the sake of having a birthday cake for the old thing uncaring about the intergrity of this story and characters and what makes the most sense.
A lot of critics had already said that stid had too much fanservice... If the third movie flops you can kiss goodbye to more movies or a series.

Eta: and people who still blame Uhura for being the reason why they don't get more character development for McCoy are a joke. Can't have the cake and eat it too....

I love Karl Urban's take on McCoy, I really do, but Zoe Saldana has made Uhura this truly fascinating, highly intelligent officer, and right now I like seeing more of her in action.

STID was so horrid that Shatner appearing in Nu Trek III couldn't possibly do any more damage than "Spock, I'm Scared!" At least when Shatner's Kirk died, he died with a shred o' dignity.

So if someone is actually scared of death and admit it, they aren't dying with "dignity"?

STID was so horrid that Shatner appearing in Nu Trek III couldn't possibly do any more damage than "Spock, I'm Scared!" At least when Shatner's Kirk died, he died with a shred o' dignity.

Shatner Kirk was old. And he lost the epic love of his life - whatshername and probably didn't want to go on. Picard getting him shot in the back was probably a blessing to him.

Seriously facing death at 25 is different than facing death at 60 and Shatner Kirk had faced 'certain' death many times in his career. When you're 25 you often think you are going to live forever.

Shot in the back? Really?

And he lost the epic love of his life - whatshername and probably didn't want to go on.

He seemed to have been happy enough with her Nexus version until Picard showed up.

I very much hope that Orci can do it, but I haven't the faintest idea about how to bring Shatner back.

But if script is almost ready, I think Shatner would be just a cameo.

Look like this is happening guys. I am really mixed on this as I wanted trek 3 to stand alone and not depend from a blast from the past especially with the remake of wrath of khan for STID.

I wonder what his role will be, I sure hope it does not take the spotlight too much away from this new young cast.

I will prefer a cameo and not a plot that needs big old Bill.

Was it a welcome blessing?

Abso-fucking-lutely.

These guys are over 80 years old.

To think that 25 years after they said goodbye in Star Trek VI, they can come back together and reunite for the 50th FRIGGIN ANNIVERSARY...guys...I'm in.

Believe me, they'll be PLENTY of time to do adventures with Pine and Quinto ALONE after the 50th Anniversary AS LONG AS IT'S DONE WELL.

We might as well enjoy Bill and Leonard while we have them.

Of course, it would help if the movie is good!

But to paraphrase Sulu, "I'm delighted any chance to see Bill and Leonard...Kirk and Spock...on screen."

Orci could be making ST3: Spock's Brain Part II, and I'll still be excited because Bill and Leonard would be in it.

OMG they're remaking The Deadly Years!

But seriously if they are bringing them back then I say make it so! They've already worked on some VW Commercials in Germany (http://trekmovie.com/2014/09/23/vw-germany-teases-star-trek-themed-campaign-featuring-shatner-nimoy/) and this could be they're last chance to return.

I hope this appearance is bigger than Nimoy in STID while it was nice to see him it was very brief.

As long as Shatner's only doing a 1 minute cameo like Nimoy in STID, I'd be fine with it.

Shatner should play all the characters in the film, including the women. And also the Enterprise.

not if the critics declare this movie a flop because it has even more fanservice and homages than those they didn't like in the the last movie, and thus paramount won't make them do more movies.

it's assumed that this is a trilogy so, theoretically, the journey of these characters ends with the third movie unless it's SO successful and such a big hit that paramount decides to let them do more movies.
This is the WORST time to 'use' the movie just to satiate the nostalgia of a little part of the audience (some old star trek fans).
At this point, why even make a movie about this cast?

I'm all for it. Shatner and Nimoy aren't getting any younger and it could very well be the last time we see them as these iconic characters. Not wanting them to overshadow the new actors though. The only way I could see it work is Shatner and Nimoy are playing old versions of Pine and Quinto telling the story of their last great big hoorah!
