Roberto Orci Not Directing Trek XIII

I believe Orci was doing fans a favour by interacting with them. Of course they shouldn't have to agree with him but they should at least treat him with a modicum of respect.
Doesn't change the fact that what he did was undignified. Jesus, he admitted this himself, didn't he?

Don't celebrate the man for doing something he later regretted.

But should he be held in contempt for the same thing for the rest of his career?

When one does not have much ammo to begin with, one has no choice but to try firing with the same bullet over and over again. Maybe one day they'll realize they're not doing any damage and will move on.

Of course not.

My only real problem with Orci directing ST XIII was him being a rookie, a first time director. I believe one has to start small, prove himself, get some experience, get recognized, before getting a 150 million dollar toy to play with.

Spielberg handled Jurassic Park and Schindler's List as overlapping productions (physically separated quite a bit as well) back in the early 90s.

I'm pretty sure Spielberg didn't really direct JP. Yes, he's credited as doing so, but as I recall it was "common knowledge" that he pawned it off to someone else (hence why the film is pretty inconsistent) to pursue the more important film (read: Oscar worthy).

Where'd you read that?

As for who should direct Trek 3, maybe we should go back to the third-best director of a Trek film: Dean Parisot. He did a great job on Galaxy Quest.

Oh, wow, I missed this from a couple days back:

It was the show (and movies) that taught us new ways to look at the world; a narrative that wasn't afraid to delve into questions of philosophy, asking both the characters and the viewers to re-examine themselves in the face of strange new worlds and new ideas, and come away from the experience at little more open-minded, if not more educated.
Praise be to Allah.

No, seriously, what? You didn't answer the person you were ostensibly somehow replying to, so I'm asking you again, Clegg, what the actual frack is up with this?

Praise be to Allah? Oh please, I don't think you really want to go there.

I didn't read it, I just remember that being a prevailing rumor at the time. Universal wouldn't let him direct Schindler's List unless he did JP first. Hence JP was a rushed job, and talk was that he pushed most of the job on someone else after putting in a few weeks.

Galaxy trek is not a trek film.

In many ways it's the best Trek film. :)

Without Commander Taggart there can be no Galaxy Quest.

Bring Back Taggart!

Sounds like a typical Hollywood rumor that probably has no real teeth. Pun intended.

Orci will be vilified until the end of time for that one comment. ...
Just as Shatner has been for the "Get a life!" line. As if he 'himself' had said it instead of reading a line in a script.

In many ways it's the best Trek film. :)

Quoted for truth. Never give up, never surrender!

"You can have a Star Trek action movie and it not be shit."

Paramount and Bad Robot have done just that, twice in a row. Watch them do it a third.

BTW, who is Red Letter Media? I mean, how many armchair nerds are actually involved in churning out their Youtube nonsense?

He's an internet reviewer (In other words, a fan) on Youtube who does a voice that is so annoying, it makes you want to kill yourself just to never have to listen to him again. Stay away. Far away.

His fifteen seconds of Internet fame was the epic series of Star Wars prequel reviews done in the persona of a creepy serial killer.

He does a bunch of other reviews of stuff and makes some little indie films of his own. You'd like him, he approves of JJTrek... or at least, really really tries to. :techman:

I'd been saying for years that Tim Allen should play Kirk. Then he did. It was like Christmas. :luvlove:

Funny story (based upon the BTS info on my DVD): Tim Allen, when sitting in the captain's chair, based his posture and performance on Yul Brynner as Ramses from Ten Commandments.

He was a good Kirk but a perfect Shatner.

Sam Rockwell will always be my favourite part of that film though. "For all you know, I'm "Crewman Number Six"!
