I will tell you what Stargate needs to fix and why I stopped watching so long ago. Stop coming up short with plot resolutions...don't take a dire situation and all the sudden wrap it in 5 minutes. Let the characters grow and change, that's what BSG did like it or not.
SG:A and later SG1 reminded me of Voyager, and if that's your thing, great. But count me out.
I want to see not dark for the sake of being dark, but if you place characters in a dire situation...let it play out honestly.
I'm not sure they can do it either, not without coming up with some HBO series writers or borrowing Ron Moore for a week or so to give pointers.
(And again I'm not bad mouthing anyone personally, not the actors, not the writers..this is all just my opinion)
