some of you may get the reference:

Reiner consistently spoke his mind about a politician he finds corrupt and a threat to American democracy. The fact he didn't like him is a label that would apply to most Americans.

His murder and that of his wife are horrible tragedies. All best thoughts and wishes go out to both families.
Most? Somewhere around half, actually.
In any case, I had hoped to not cause an eruption, but some people can't help themselves.
Moving on (I hope).

Rob Reiner directed many of my very favorite films, but I first appreciated him as Meathead. His is a tragic loss to the world of art and entertainment.

The loss of the Reiner couple at the hands of their own child, which is what seems to have happened, is a tragic loss to the world under horrible circumstances.

At great personal risk, let me just posit that the trump thing is explainable, tho not excusable. He and Reiner were bitter enemies. Reiner constantly insulted and opposed Trump. That said, even being a conservative, I wish the old asshole had just shut up about it. It was a low thing to do.

I know what you mean Forbin.

Scott baio gave a pretty good view of why trump said what he did.Though I to didnt like it and wish he just wouldn't have said anything. I am a huge fan of reiner and his work especially The Princess Bride. So I wasnt happy that Trump felt the need to say what he did. He created unecessary problems for himself but even more should have thought of the reiner family. Basically I wish he would have taken the high road. But he didn't take it. Maybe one day he'll take it back.

If you want the link to the scott baio podcast let me know.

Trump will never take the high road. He only doubles down on his insane bullshit. His words are inexcusable.

Anyway, as usual the man wants to make everything about himself and it seems to be happening in this thread too. Can we get back to Reiner? About Reiner's work maybe?

I felt Forbin deserved some support. Its not easy being by yourself when others disagree. He gave his opinion and thats totally fine.

Yes. I have been a fan of Reiner since I was a kid. Reruns of All in the Family of course but than his string of successful movies that he directed was astonishing. The Princess Bride is my favorite but A few Good Men and Misery both so excellent as well. So many others of course. He really carved a unique career for himself much different than his dad's.

His later acting was also very good. Loved him in Wolf of Wall Street and I am looking forward to his episides of The Bear..

Had a listen to Baio and he appears to make Trump out to be a victim in this. Baios comments seem to hinge on a claim that Reiner said he wished the shooter hadn't missed, but this claim appears to be unfounded according to fact checks.

He asks if Trump could possibly be gracious after what hes taken over the years from Reiner and others. For me dont say anything at all if you cant find it in yourself to show empathy after the horrible events of last week.

There are times, when you don’t have anything nice to say, it is better to err on the side of not saying anything at all.

Well said.

I didn't say anything not nice. I'm in total agreement with everyone that Trump should have STFU and it was a rotten thing to say. I only felt the need to point out there was a background reason, for the sake of completeness. I thought it would be one post and move on. I was not trying to "light a fuse," and certainly not wanting to turn the discussion away from the tragedy.

Anyhow, I saw this morning they're talking about the death penalty for the son. I'm usually not against it, but holy shit, I can't imaging his siblings want yet another family member killed!

I personally think they are going the insanity route. If he has schizophrenia and he mixed his meds with hard drugs like cocaine or meth it could have made him much worse. The sister supposedly has said she was scared of him when they were kids. That he started on cocaine at 15 possibly with his meds its quite possible he started acting irrationally.and his sister noticed.
