News RIP Tracy Tormé

:wah:

1. way too young to go
2. very creative mind
3. created "Sliders" and its array of main characters and from four disparate archetypes and made them bond impeccably well. A show whose first two seasons - under his direct control - were easily the best
4. TNG episodes that were all anywhere between "very good" to "classic", for which "Conspiracy", "The Schizoid Man", more of "Manhunt" than not, the ideas in "Haven" that couldn't be given the depth they deserved and not even as an allegory but this one comes close, and "The Royale" (another gem from the underrated second season) are my favorites or had the best bits in them but none were anything like clunkers

Sad news.

On July 30th of 1988, I saw Tracy at a Creation Con event where Allen Asherman (the Star Trek Compendium), John DeLancie, and Al Lewis (Grandpa Munster) were also in attendance. There was also a presentation about the upcoming 2nd season of TNG. It was held inside a ballroom at NYC's historic Pennsylvania Hotel, which has sadly been demolished.

Tracy gave an amusing and entertaining talk about his career that day. I still have his autograph.

R.I.P.

I loved Sliders, even if it was a little cheesy. Rest in Peace Mr. Tormé.

Cheesy at times, but it's very gouda... :shifty:

:D

I just got done with the first eight episodes of season one, save for both the pilot and finale, and - go figure - in completely random order. It's an eclectic and eccentric blend at times, but somehow remains incredibly fun when one's settled in, and the character dynamic and alternate timelines based (generally) off of one historical difference starts begging thoughts on how those Earths genuinely could occur (or not...). But that's part of the fun.

One obvious thing one has got to overlook, of course, is the "How does currency work between dimensions?" Because, most of the time, it won't - at least for the oddball worlds we see. In their universe multiverse, most universes would be very very similar, but then it'd be too boring for a show! Some episodes do imply a possible continuity, others simply can't. But there's still a charm despite it all...

Found a fun retrospective video as well:

It's somewhat addressed, a few times. In the pilot even... it doesn't work. It actually causes a significant plot issue.

Usually the worlds are close enough that it does work. But we do see them occasionally have been implied to have made some local money via odd jobs and what not.
