RIP Leslie Nielsen

A depressing thought to have lost this larger-than-life man.

Recently watched Due South again, not knowing that we might soon lose him.

The attempt on Nordberg's life left me shaken and disturbed, and all the questions kept coming up over and over again, like bubbles in a case of club soda. Who was this character in the hospital? And why was he trying to kill Nordberg? And for whom? Did Ludwig lie to me? I didn't have any proof, but somehow, I didn't entirely trust him either. Why was the 'I Luv You' not listed in Ludwig's records? And if it was, did he know about it? And if he didn't, who did? And where the hell was I?

Where he's at is undoubtedly heaven.

Thanks for the memories good sir.

R.I.P.

I know the Poseidon Adventure wasn't a comedy (at least not intentionally), but the look on his face when he finally saw the iceberg was absolutely hilarious!

Iceberg??

Come to think of it, that could be a line from a Leslie Nielsen comedy!

A lot of younger people watching Forbidden Planet for the first time are surprised to see him in a dramatic role. Of course, we old-timers know he spent the first half of his film career in straight roles and only re-invented himself as a comedian with 1980’s Airplane! He was great at both.

Rest in peace, Mr. Nielsen.

Saddened by this news, but the man couldn't have left a greater legacy of talent on film, both funny and dramatic, for all of humankind to experience. The man has left his imprint upon society as a whole, and that epicness will ensure that his memory will live on forever.

RIP, Mr Nielson. One of your stature is no doubt killing them in heaven right now.

RIP, Mr Nielsen. :(

I'll always remember him best as Commander Adams in Forbidden Planet, one of the best films ever made and one of my fondest childhood memories. Another little bit of our past slips away....

For those interested, CBC Radio One did an episode about him earlier this year on their archive show, Rewind. The episode can be found here:

The documentary is from a time when Nielsen was in his twenties, just starting out in his acting career and moving to New York City. It's a really interesting piece.

RIP Leslie :(

Now that he is gone, it is time to pick another Canadian actor who used to only do drama but would be perfect for comedy.

I'm thinking of Michael Hogan of course. I can TOTALLY see him as a reboot Drebin...

Woah, dude, the man just died and you talk about rebooting one of his most famous roles. :wtf:

I was saddened to hear the news. Leslie Nielsen may no longer be with us, but his greatest movies have endured and will continue to do so.

There should be no new Frank Drebin. There's nothing lacking in the one we've got. (Wasn't Drebin basically an update of Inspector Clouseau, anyway? If so, he's a bona fide example of how to update a character.)

R.I.P
But i cant really be sad because he brought so much laughter and will continue to do so every time i stick in the DVD of police squad...in colour.

Forbidden Planet was Star Trek, Version 1.0, so us Trekkers just lost an important fellow in our "Universe". R.I.P., Captain J.J. Adams.

I was thinking of this years ago, in fact. Ever since I first saw nuBSG.

Admit it. You can see Hogan doing this kind of thing, can't you? ;)

Thanks for that. Rewind can be a really interesting show. It's funny hearing him that young, as I mostly know his post-Airplane! work.

He did indeed pass away, it's the truth; and the truth hurts! Maybe not as much as jumping on a bicycle with the seat missing, but it hurts!

RIP, Mr. Nielsen. You gave me some of the best laughs ever in film.

:guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw:

Really going to sorely miss him. Always excited to watch his movies and always hoped he would keep popping up in movies.

He played a crazy general (up there with the one Harry Morgan played before getting the Sherman Potter gig) on M*A*S*H
