RIP Leslie Nielsen

Sad news. I adored (and still adore) the Naked Gun movies as a kid. One of the ultimate straight men.

The first Naked Gun movie is quite funny, the second one loses some "spark" but still has plenty of humorous moments. 33 1/3? Never "felt it."

The problem with the movies is they turned Drebin into a funny character. He is not supposed to be like that; the original point of the TV series was to have Drebin be completely serious and just a foil for the comedy going on around him.

RIP, Frank Drebin and Dr. Rumack. "Yes, I remember. I had the lasanga." "The truth hurts, doesn't it? Maybe not as much as jumping on a bicycle with the seat missing, but it hurts."

:( Thanks for the laughs, Leslie.

"I haven't has this much sex since I was a Boy Scout Leader!"

:room goes quiet:

"I mean... at the time.... I was dating a lot."

That's really sad news :(

His name was enough to make me watch a film. Forbidden Planet is one of my all-time favourites.

Really liked the third one. The whole White Heat spoof was pretty cool.

Big fan of Forbidden Planet. His character is a complete straight man, rarely laughing or smiling. He pulled it off well.

I'm old enough to remember his early dramatic era and his later comedic era. He was a great actor in both. Rest easy my friend.

‎"There'd been a recent string of gorgeous fashion models found naked and unconscious in laundromats on the west side. Unfortunately, I was assigned to investigate hold-ups at local credit unions. I was doing my laundry on the other side of town when I got the call..."

84 is a good, long run. When we remember him, it will certainly make us smile. That's a pretty good legacy to leave behind.

RIP, Mr. Nielsen.

Very sad. He was a Canadian icon, and TV comedy icon, and even a science fiction icon (through Forbidden Planet).

Alex

I just now read this.... and man, I am crushed. "Airplane!" is without doubt one of my all-time favorite comedies. The man had a talent for comedy that was unknown before that film.
