Rip in the fabric of space/time fandom

There will now be two eschelons or strata of fans. The movie fans, the trekkers, and TOS fans, the trekkies. Maybe ripping the fabric of space time is not the right word, more like twisting it and ringing it out of every drop of blood. There will be dissension in the ranks and the cast system will prevail. The trekkers will naturally feel superior to the trekkies since the entire original series probably didn't even cost 150 million dollars. Will style smash the living shit out of substance?

I was under the impression that there are several stripes of Trek fans. You have the TOS-purists, the TNG is best bunch, the Niners, the fans of VOY and ENT, and then you have the pan-Trek fans who like most of Trek. There will be folks who like the new movie and the Trek that came before, there will be those who only like the movie, and there will be those who only like the preceding Trek.

On the whole, not that big of a change.

Sums up my sentiments as well.

Truth be known Fandom consists of two main groups.

1. Fandom is just a gosh-durned hobby ( The Casual Fans )

2. Fandom is a way of life ( The Hard Core Fans )

Then under those two groups are the sub-groups mentioned above.

* YMMV *

Still sounds like pretty much the same way it's been for years already. At most, the movie adds one more wrinkle to the whole. But creating a schism the likes of which has never been seen before? Naah, I doubt that very much.

In other words there will not be a tear in the space/time continum everyone worried about that can now return to your everyday lives.

Good grief, man! Some people in fandom will not enjoy the movie, and will deride it, while some people in fandom will enjoy the movie, and will defend it, and that will be that. We're not talking about factions of the IRA here.

The Provisional Trek Fans
The Real Trek Fans
The Continuity Trek Fans
Sinn Trek (the political wing)

Well good sir, I think you will find that that The people's popular front of Trekdom are the only sensible option.

Well, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
