Riddick 3 begins scouting locations

Isn't it suppose to be called Riddick 2? I remember hearing that Pitch Black was suppose to be The Hobbit of the franchise, and The Chronicles of Riddick was suppose to be the first installment of a brand-new trilogy. So technically, apparently, the second film would be The Chronicles of Riddick 2: Subtitle.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Subtitle is too long. Why not something simple like Riddick's War?

Or, how about this: Riddick's War: The Chronicles of Riddick: The Origins of Riddick's War.

I'd prefer something like:

The Chronicles of Riddick: Riddick's War: The Second Chronicle in The Chronicles of Riddick

Oh, I so hope this happens. I'm dying for some new Riddick. I still don't know why they haven't done some expanded universe type comics and novels set in this verse. It's perfect for it.

Re: Riddick 3 is officially given the green light

Vin Diesel has reached an agreement with Universal Studios to star in and produce a third theatrical Riddick film.

Vin Diesel is officially set to star in and produce a third film featuring his famed anti-hero character Riddick for Universal Pictures and Lionsgate reports Variety.
"Pitch Black" and "The Chronicles of Riddick" writer/director David Twohy will helm from his own screenplay. The story will avoid the large scale space opera of 'Chronicles' in favour of a dark, character-driven thriller more along "Pitch Black" lines.
Production is not expected to get underway until after Diesel finishes work on "Fast Five", the fifth film in the "Fast and Furious" franchise.

Even though its going to more basic and seemingly skip the large scope of Chronicles pt.1 I hope they address the events of that films ending from whatever the starting point is of this new installment.

Will it have the header Chronicles of Riddick and be considered a pt. 2 or the possible start of another saga?

He says Egypt has been added to the film locations. (he says on Facebook, I mean, not that he nudged me this morning in bed and told me)

I liked the universe they were building. It was big, blowsy and nutty but why can't we have that in a sci fi flick? Everything doesn't have to be neatly organized and make sense. :D

^Yeah, I thought the worldbuilding they were trying to do was the most interesting aspect of that film. CoR certainly isn't famed for character. I can't help but wonder if it will feel like a downgrade to go from an epic scope back to a small-scale kind of story.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Pitch Black wasn't terrible, and I never saw Riddick, so it's not a terrible idea to return to Pitch Black and bring Claudia Black back from the dead for some reason.

I'm excited to see another Riddick film!

And I hope they continue with the world-building started in Chronicles of Riddick, even if the film is smaller in scope.

Chronicles of Riddick and Avatar are the only two recent SF films that have done some major world-building (i.e. doing something on a major scale outside the Trek and SW mold), so I want to see more if that, please! :)

...of course a more tightly focused story doesn't mean the bigger universe isn't still out there somewhere. It's just not the focus of this particular flick.

I love the way the Riddickverse is kind of a cross between Dune and Farscape with maybe some outer-space Mad Max thrown in. :rommie:

Re: Riddick 3 given the greenlight

Some brief details about the direction of Riddick 3 have come out today.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story starts with Riddick left for dead on a barren alien planet and must deal with two groups of bounty hunters on rockets, not to mention the local hostile wildlife including three-legged bisons and mud demons.
The end of the last film had Riddick essentially left in charge of the Necromonger army and its quest to find the Underverse. It's unclear if any mention will be made at all to events in that film (if they are it'll likely be a few quick throwaway lines).

Hopefully those lines will be along the lines of why he wasn't fit to rule. Had ruled poorly for "x" time. Perhaps this survival installment is a type of punishment for Riddick?
Why the Necromongers wouldn't just kill him would I think for sure need to be addressed.
