Rewatching Enterprise

Got the first season. Hubby (bigger nerd than me... yeah... believe it 
) and I really, really enjoyed the first episode! Broken Bow. Maybe it's because I'm not so sensitive about a show already filmed and maybe it's part nostalgia but it really has the right 'feel' about it. AND a dog!

I'm jealous. There's no more "not yet seen" Trek for me(except the movies).
My favorite episodes that you're soon to hit are:
(Ep2)Fight or Flight
(4)Unexpected -I think this is such a wonderful episode. It capitalizes on all of Enterprise's strengths: The naiveté, the earnestness, and the humor, particularly between T'Pol, Archer, and Trip.
(7)Breaking the Ice -Like many early episodes, the stories are very small in scope. I love how they show the differences between Vulcans and Humans so much. Archer has an axe to grind, but the Vulcans simply couldn't care less.
(16)Fusion -And some of their similarities
(8)Civilization -This one is very much a throwback to Captain Kirk. It's a cheesy, fun adventure romp that I've always been fond of.
(12)Dear Doctor -Many people have trouble with the ending of this one, but forgetting that, It's definitely one of the stand outs from this season. It's a unique style of episode that's been done once or twice in Star Trek before, and will be done again in season 2.
(17)Acquisition -I don't care what anyone says. I love it. It's really funny!
My least liked is probably either the 5th, or the 23rd episode.

I'm watching Enterpise for the first time. I've seen the other Star Treks. I'm currently only into the third season. I preferred the first two seasons. The third one seems darker, angrier, and more military like. I enjoyed seeing them meeting and interacting with new species.
I prefer the 1st two seasons myself. I'm a fan of the Shran character's flaws that operate to make him a reluctant but valuable ally to Archer and that went into later seasons too.
I am so burned out on TOS it can be a slog for me. TNG was always a bit cold and sterile (Season One: "Get that Captain Sleepy a damned cup of coffee!"), even boring much of the time - yet it has its moments. I still wouldn't give up any Star Trek even though there are some episodes and movies I am less likely to re-watch.

It always feels like Season 3 was a "hurry up and wrap up this show" season meant to be its last, then Season 4 got tacked on when they got another year to pad out. I don't really understand why seasons 3 and 4 (really a different show recycling the decaying remains of the original two as shoot-em-up space opera) are so popular with some people. If there hadn't been pressures threatening to kill Enterprise off we might have had a very different show after Season 2 remaining focused on exploration and discovery with fewer contrivances to create Star Wars style comic book conflict and action.
Just finished watching DS9, hadn't seen all 7 seasons. I felt a little annoyed by the ending. The prophets should have let Sisko go to be with his family.
In a way, they did.
The ending is horrible
You may be right about Starfleet. However, do we really know enough about the demographics of or the ethnic varieties present in the Vulcan species? Yes, we've seen Vulcans with varying skin tones (and some with features resembling Terrans from Asia), but we have no idea really how common any of those things are in the whole of Vulcan civilization. Those things may be over-represented as far as we know given the relatively small sampling of Vulcans we've seen over the years.
Vulcan is a very hot desert planet, I would expect a humanoid species evolved in such an environment to have most of their people looking more Middle Eastern/Asian/African human than European human.
I hope you got the Blu Ray box, it's so much better than the DVD.
The Enterprise pilot is probably the best Star Trek show opener to date, followed by Voyager.
Upon rewatching, I can easily connect with almost all the actors, something a more recent show (which shall not be named) couldn't accomplish.
What puzzles me (and others) is Scott Bacula's overacting. He is constantly pacing around, playing the tough guy, the alpha male, and his first convo with T'Pol is anything but gentleman-like... At the same time, Scott is an absolute Mr. Nice Guy IRL and one of the nicest celebrities you could possibly meet.
I belong to a minority who prefer the early T'Pol with her Vulcan arrogance and I even have a thing for her tree bark outfit, didn't like the Futurama Leela jumpsuits of S.3/4 that much.
The Vulcans. I for one sincerely enjoyed the mutual aversion and the constant bickering between human and Vulcan officials. It didn't seem out of place to me. Humans had high hopes for their first interstellar mentors and got snookered and mildly patronized for nearly a century instead. Besides, love, peace and harmony ain't enough for a compelling story, let alone for a whole series.
Rant: I could've done without the Suliban and the TCW and certainly without the pointless Xindi attack. B&B's attempts to raise the TV ratings always resulted in horrific tragedies on a planetary scale. All of the events mentioned above were never heard or spoken of ever again. Rant over.
It's very sad that some of the show's regulars were severely underused. Somehow, the show runners always tried to recreate a "magic Trio" a la Kirk-McCoy-Spock but never really succeeded.
Trip & T'Pol. Strong chemistry between the two and even the direction of the pilot episodes keeps steering them towards a romantic relationship, slowly but steadily. Having said that, I still don't fully understand T'Pols decision at the end of "Broken Bow" to stay aboard Enterprise. To that point, almost all of her interactions with the crew were somewhat hostile and she should be looking forward to leave the ship asap. The prospect of another year of un-Vulcan chaos must be mind-boggling.

I liked Enterprise a lot, even the bad episodes were harmless (TATV EXCEPTED)
Personally I thought by s3-4 it was showing potential to be a better show than voyager but unfortunately it was too late by then.
