To avoid necro, I'm creating a new thread about my wife and I rewatching Voyager. So we're on episode 18 of Season 2 now. I had earlier commented that I was hesitant to watch seasons 2-3, since I don't remember them being any good. I have not, before now, ever rewatched an episode of Voyager. Here's what I'm noticing.
There are lots more recurring background characters than I remember. There seems to be a pattern that the random crew member who gets lines in one episode will die or betray the ship in the next episode or two. I forgot all about Jonas.
Everyone got their chance to shine early on. Everyone gets their spotlight episodes. It feels like Harry Kim was the early favorite of the writers, who seemed to like to strand him away from the ship. Tom Paris is not used very much. I don't think the writers knew what to do with him, besides "Aye, Captain", and the odd sarcastic remark. Chakotay didn't start out as wallpaper, and Kes is much better than I remember her.
The acting is pretty fantastic. Maybe Beltran is phoning it in, but Roxann, Garrett, Jennifer and especially Tim are all doing a great job. Tuvok and Sudor was cool. Kes and Tanis was really cool. Majel Barrett as Suspiria was awesome.
I like the Kazon. I don't see the problem with them. They have a rich backstory, reminiscent of the Klingons, but they seem to be more realistic (Klingons as presented from TNG onward don't seem like they'd be capable of managing any sort of empire). I don't care about the broccoli hair. Klingons have buttcracks on their forheads. Kazons actually look cool to me, plus I like watching Seska and Cullah.
