How do you rate Revolution of the Daleks

I hear there was a battle between the new Daleks and old, and the old won. That’s always going to happen. People will never like any redesigns. They’re perfect as they are.

Happy New Year, gang!

Haven't seen this yet, and won't until I reach the 13th Doctor in my marathon run. But I am aware of the new companion a-coming, and I admit I'm disappointed that there won't be an all-girl dynamic on the new series. I like the idea of the Doctor and Yaz only.

That was...ok. I gave it 7/10

Really glad the Doctor wasn't stuck in prison for half the episode and having Jack spring her was fun, if also a bit easy.
The Terminator/Victory of the Daleks vibe was a bit standard, and as someone on Twitter pointed out, the Doctor again weaponises racism to her own benefit.

Jodie was her usual variable self. Graham, Ryan and Yaz were bland, though at least Yaz has a bit of a spark now. The Doctor was being very needy/insecure here. Ryan and Graham leaving seemed kinda rushed, but it is always nice to see companions leave on their own terms.

Jack was Jack, Barrowman played it well, didn't go over the top.

Tricking the Daleks into the other Tardis was cute, shame it's destroyed, that console room is so much cooler than Jodie's.

And then the reveal...Ok I have two views on this. On the one hand Bishop is a fun comedian, has presence and I think he'll make a decent companion.

On the other hand, having saddled the first female Doctor with a famous middle aged white guy what do they do when that famous middle aged white guy leaves? Just seems to show a lack of faith in Jodie. I was kinda looking forward to just Jodie and Yaz, a stripped down dynamic, but Chibs does love his full Tardis.

The Shadow proclamation does not do time travel.

Or regional offices do not exchange information with their past and future.

So whenever the Doctor was being held, is only and exactly when they care about holding her, and feel worried about her escape, which might be the 43rd century.

Although in the show they said 88 billion light years away, but they didn't mention a corresponding time shift.

Still Earth is beyond Judoon jurisdiction, despite what happened in Smith and Jones, because 21st century earth has not signed a treaty with the Shadow proclamation.

Is Yaz in love with the Doctor?
It's been hinted at as far back as Series 11, when Yaz's family asked if the Doctor was her girlfriend. Then there was a rumor the series was going to explore Tax and the Doctor in Series 12, and nothing came of that. I suspect the rumor was little more than fans speculating because Yaz was so underdeveloped compared to Graham and Ryan, so crushing on the Doctor would give her character some development.

Loved it. 8/10 because it was a bit long. Great to Jack again but would have loved to have seen more. Nice nod to Gwen.
Excited to see where we go from here!

I know but it bugs me. Can't she just go to the Shadow Proclamation and find out why they had an issue with her since she knows them? I'm assuming it is them that put the warrant out for her.
I don't see why it should bug you. The Doctor was on the run from the Time Lords for decades. Sometimes it came up, most times it didn't. No matter.

As for the why, The Doctor already explained that in this episode.

It was more of a promo than a bonus scene. It's been posted on the official Doctor Who social media feeds. I'm just going to assume this YouTube video isn't region-locked:

Oh dear.

Maybe it says more about the mood and mental state I'm in, but this seemed terribly derivative with nary a new idea to be found.

Spoilers!
A British PM gets 'security drones'. Churchill called them 'metaltrons' and had them serve him tea, which was much more effective. The PM's speech was so subtle I expected her to say she was making Britain strong and stable.

The 'bad guy' is quite literally a rerun of the 'crooked business man' theme from long ago, with the added 'twist of "tee hee, he might run for president" nudge, nudge.

Classic daleks don't like ones who have evolved to survive - at least they haven't used pig dna this time.

Sure, some of the call backs were nostalgic, which I guess was good in an unsure world. Jack's square gun, the few references to his backstory for a new companion (and audience). But the deliberate hints of "the Doctor is in lockdown" early on felt forced.

The battles looked like dalek battles always do. I have always felt that creatures so obviously designed with a flat base to move on ground look stupid floating in the air. There were moments when I even wondered if they were reusing footage from the RTD era, though it wasn't quite Huge enough for that.

I did like Jack's conversation with Yaz. Pity he left, that friendship would have been good to explore. Ryan deciding to leave was also done well and nicely handled. But for heaven's sake why must Graham hang round him like a piece of loo roll stuck to his shoe? Let the man grow up and get his own life. Graham came over as just needy and clingy, a parent who will never allow the child space, however old and capable they are. Maybe the bike scene added to that.

And finally... all the emotional stuff of them leaving, Yaz staying, still wasn't enough. We had to have the spooky "other doctor" moment, just to remind us that Chibnall has this other stupid idea on the go. Annoyingly.

I needed nostalgia. I needed a good, fresh, exciting, old school style Doctor Who story. I got a rehashing of old ideas, in recognisable old locations with old political point scoring. And a dash of Chibnall rubbish at the end.
Bah! Humbug!

7. A bit meh. Not outright bad but very forgettable. I enjoyed seeing Jack again. The heart to heart between him and Yaz was nice. As was the one between Ryan and the Doctor. But otherwise a by the numbers story. As is typical for a Chibnall script, there was a lot of standing around and talking. I do wish they'd have kept the backup TARDIS a bit longer--although I'm not really sure what they could do with it.

It was an okay episode. I did like the quiet moments but they seemed to be lacking a context, either from the lack of urgency, or why they were important. There was the overtly hinting at the walking out the door by Ryan done semi-well. I did appreciate the whole emptiness at the end and Yaz saying that was all right to feel sad. At least the moments are done well - if the showrunner did understand what sadness was and futility at not getting what one wants. I would say it was a B/B-
