"Una" could actually be Pike's pet name for her, as in "One"
As in his abbreviation of Owokesun, "Owo"

Don’t think it’s an Admiral at the end. I think it’s a Comordore.

Doesn't have to be an admiral to do all that, just look at Remmick in early Next Gen.
I would say it can't be since April is British, but Discovery is a world where Yeoman Colt is a spiky alien so...

It gives the character a mildly interesting quirk that she continues to identify herself as Number One to Starfleet, etc.

I don't blame you. I wouldn't take credit for it either. Beyond lame.

Considering she states her name for the record as "Number One", I'm of the opinion that's her given name. Una is a nickname. She probably grew up on a colony world where the naming practices are different than on Earth.

The officer asked her to give her name and position, That’s her position, her name was given off screen.

IMO if the production team had a genuinely serious attitude about canonizing "Una", then that makes the joke at the end dissonantly fall flat.

That's her position and her name. :p

I think it's silly for her real name to be "Number One" but find it amusing enough that I like running with the notion. The idea of Una being a nickname for Number One instead of vice versa just feeds into that. Long live Number One!

Oh, I eagerly signed onto the idea and ran with it. Just wanted to give Dave credit.

I can hear Craft now: "If we were lovers on my world, you would give me my true name."

Have people forgotten about Seven? Numbers are very Trekesque.

Due to a mishap with the on-board library computer of the initial colony ship, most media files were lost, so by default the 1990s sitcom "Blossom" became a major cultural touchstone for the inhabitants. A few generations of memetic mutation after "Six" became an incredibly popular baby-name, all the integers started to have their moment in the sun.

Please no, that is just painfully stupid. She is called 'Number One' for the same reason than Riker was, any other explanation would just be torturous. It would be like McCoy's first name actually being 'Doctor'.

I thought it was "Bones" for the longest time as a kid.
