Reveal: New transporter design!

star-trek-discovery-transporter-room-ew-image-600x400.jpg

Spitballing here... Maybe the "fans" are actually the ceiling transporter pads, and they swing up when the transport sequence is initiated. It would make for some cool FX.

A theorized transporter for the real world would supposedly require an unfathomably large computer. And most computers require fans to prevent them from overheating. So maybe they are trying to make it seem more realistic by showing that transporting requires a massive computer that needs a fan that large to cool it down?

Who says these things have to rotate at all? There could be a series of concentric light rings underneath the material under the "spokes" that light up TNG warp core style, moving inward when beaming down, outward when beaming onto the ship. Or something. :)

Also looks like the technology is really creating a copy of the person digitally and then destroys the original, which was a hypothesis of how actual transporters might work, but not sure if I like it to actually be like that. I think they should have kept it vague.
How do you gather that from that picture?

I frickin love this new transporter. This is what a prequel should look like.
Sure. Just not one set a few years before TOS. I'm already busy rationalising it as for some special use or an alien tech equivalent.

The TOS Enterprise is already 15 years old by the time of Discovery, if Discovery is brand new it can easily explain a different look. That does not explain why there are floor mats hanging on the wall though. :D

One problem is that people are judging this sneak peek as the whole transporter room. It might look very different when we see the whole thing. It appears to me to be a very active room, where the walls might light up or otherwise include some sort of SFX.

It looks more advanced (the console) and also less advanced(the mechanical looking backdrop) at the same time. My guess is we are going to see a lot of these juxtapositions in DSC. An update from 2017 but with a nod to The Cage. So far it works.

I definitely like the new transporter design. It looks old yet futuristic. Beaming people on and off a ship takes a lot of energy and computer power so the bigger set makes sense.

Maybe it's an interdimensional transporter. There were those rumors about multidimensions and Sarek

I am still holding out a shred of hope that Shenzhou is from the Kelvin timeline and it will cross over to the Prime timeline, where we will find a Discovery that is more in line with Prime. Maybe they're trolling us by not showing Discovery yet.

Sigh.

Except CBS and Paramount so not happening in a million years with the clear rhetoric both have established between one another. I'm just hoping it'll be a fun show, and to agree with Mirror Mirror the Shenzhou does look very much in line with things seen in ENT but with lots of variation on the initial. Basically I see the "Eavesverse" which makes me lol.
