Return of Shipper Thread Guidelines--MUST READ

Kalen Archer is about as objective and fair as any person gets. She also has never participated in any "'shippy wars" or baiting, and therefore I think she was a good choice for a new moderator. There's nothing wrong with having a 'shipper preference and being a moderator...as angie mentioned, Top41 has her own preferences too and she's never abused her powers because of it. Give Kalen a chance and I think you'll see that the shoes fit perfectly.

I have been lurking and posting on this board for a long time and Kalen has always been a very vocal supporter of the Archer/T'Pol relationship and posted quite a bit in the A/T threads. She's also never hidden the fact that she can't stand Trip/T'Pol. Knowing that, how exactly do you expect me and other T/T fans to react? I think quite a few people seem to be suffering from short-term memory all of a sudden.

I'll be watching very carefully to see if Kalen is indeed fair and objective.

Actaully RF, Kalen is not objective and does indeed participate in shipper wars by the very fact that she chooses A/T. That is as biased as you can get.

She chose a side, she defends that side, therefore she is in direct opposition to those she disagrees with.

This does not a good mod make.

I'm sorry Kalen, i have nothing against you. I have looked through some of your posts and you read as a very nice person.

However, if Mods are to be impartial then we need one who has not chosen sides.

I do think we need to give KalenArcher a chance to be a mod before we criticize her.

I do think most mods try to be impartial but that doesn't mean he/she doesn't have a right to opinions or to post those opinions. As I have heard others say, mods are posters first and mods second.

Modding is a tough job that is a volunteer position without any reimbursement of their time.

Let's give Kalen a chance.

One thing to remember is that there are three mods. It is possible Kalen can avoid the shipper complaints. Personally I usually go to jkladis because he seems the most objective---Top41 being a pro T/T fan . But all the mods seem to be able to put aside and handle problems with patience which I have every confidence Kalen will do as well!

i keep on hearing top41 is pro t/t but i dont remember her in the shipper threads.

to me there is a difference between some one who might have enjoyed a t/t moment as part of the overall enjoyment of the show and a real "shipper".

But Angie, you made my point. You go to an "unbiased" mod when you have a problem. I think that the few T/T'rs that have voiced their complaints here have the same POV. They want to be able to be heard and responded to without the shipper glasses on. Thats all.

Have we(or i) given Kalen a chance? No, obviously not. But we do have the right to voice our opinion about what we fear could come of this. No one is bashing, no one is being mean, but we are asking legit questions, and just trying to understand this.
I agree that biased mods could maybe stay away from the shipper complaints..

Exactly, it came as a total surprise to me when I found out that Top actually liked Trip and T'Pol because I had never seen her participate in any of the shipper threads.

Kalen and I have had a few heated arguments in the past, so I know where she stands on the issue of shipping.

The two week moritorium on shipper threads is over, and the threads can come back to the forum. I'll be honest, though: not much has changed. Over the past two weeks, much of what we've observed has been immature, completely out-of-line, petty behavior. It's a shame; we had all hoped cooler heads would prevail during this shipper downtime.

A few things to keep in mind:

1. Both shipper threads (1 per ship at a time) and character threads (1 per character at a time) can come back. We ask that you do not fill either with pictures. A screencap or picture here and there is okay (remember don't hotlink; you must host the pics on your own site), but if it gets excessive it's spamming.

2. The rules are going to be stricter. Many of you have had a lot of friendlies from us; all of you know the rules by now. There will be no tolerance for flaming/trolling, and given the history, things that seem borderline might garner warnings, especially if the intent is under-the-radar trolling.

3. Please remember that the moderators aren't babysitters. We've been innundated with notify mod e-mails and PMs from shippers over the last few months. We're not going to police what people say about the characters: people have a right to post negative things about a character, 'ship or even to some extent an actor (so long as it's not libel or an outright flame). If you can't accept that, you might want to reconsider posting here. We're tired of getting notify mod complaints about someone criticizing a character.

I'd suggest you guys make an effort to work out some of your problems on your own. I'd also suggest trying to be less sensitive about your 'ships and the things people say about them. Enjoy posting with like-minded folks, and get along with those who think differently.

Kal should be given a chance to prove her impartiality. not everyone on this board knows how very, VERY impartial and just she has been as a mod on the Logical Choice, especially during a controversial time. she was gentle, fair, yet firm. I believe she'll make a GREAT mod.

How can she possibly be unbiased when she's a mod at an Archer/T'Pol shipper board and actively posts in that forum?

I hope Kalen proves me wrong and is impartial, but until that is proven to be the case I have every right to be pessimistic.

come one dmleo back off and chill a little.

i didnt bring this up here to start a fight but to try and head off a possible panic reaction.

i did make my one suggestion and as i said i think it would be a good idea if it applied to both sides of the shipper coin in case they were tabbed to be a mod .

but as i pointed out we also need give kalen a chance.

i dont see tbonz and the others doing this if they were not sure she could be impartial when needed.,

Really, folks. I hardly find it appropriate for some of you to turn this thread into an open debate over this board's choice of staff. You should know better than that.

Moderators are people. Of course we have personal preferences and bias -- In anything and everything. The idea when exercising your duties as a moderator, is to be able to overcome your partialness and inclinations as best you can.

I'd like us not to wander in this direction again.

You know there are only a couple of people who post stuff like that and the mods deal with it. Trip is one of Mana's fav character so she doesn't put up with it. Kalen is the one who has had to deal with our crazies and done it with grace and firmness.

I'm hesitant to reply to this. I think you are lumping people into a group when you say part of the motto is T/T sucks. I could get angry, but I'm not going to do that.

I've been around LC a long time, and know that there are different people there with different opinions. A few posters there are openly T/T and I look forward to talking with them.

I encourage people here to give Kal'En a chance. And see how she performs as a mod.

Pookha, I think it's better to talk about this openly and voice our hesitation and concern over this turn of events.

Considering all the shipper problems plaging this board, and I am taking full responsibility for my own actions in some of these flair ups, I find it unbelievable that such an openly supportive Archer/T'Pol shipper would be made a mod.
