Retro-casting superhero films and shows

Ms Marvel (1978), a Paramount Pictures production along with Marvel Entertainment of a Peter Hymans film, with a script by Harlan Ellison.

Ms. Marvel/Carol Danvers: Farrah Fawcett

Mar-Vell: Robert Redford

That's all I can think of for now, if anybody else wants to add on characters/actors related to this character, feel free.

I get the Nolan thing, but Dr. Strange just doesn't really strike me as the kind of character I think of when I think of David Bowie.

IIRC from my reading of the great Starlog spin-off Comics Scene, Bowie was supposed to be cast as Strange in a movie that ultimately (like everything Comics Scene & Starlog announced was going to be made never did get made) never got made.

Replace Farrah Fawcett with Jenny Agutter and I think you have a better movie.
Although I don't know how much of a headliner Jenny Agutter would be, most people would be drawn in by Robert Redford.
And if we're sticking to a 70s theme, Fred Williamson as Nick Fury and Pam Grier as Monica Rambeau.

I watched Charlie's Angels back when it first started up on MeTV, and I found it a little ironic that of the three actresses Farah Fawcett was the weakest, but ended up the most popular.

She was a horrible actress back then. Her part in Logan's Run is painful to watch.

Her fame was more from her iconic pinup poster and other modeling than for her acting. She didn't "end up" more popular; rather, it was the runaway popularity of her poster -- the best-selling one of all time, apparently -- that got her the jobs on Logan's Run and Charlie's Angels. At that point in her career, nobody was hiring her for her acting ability. Although she did some impressive work in the mid-'80s (notably in The Burning Bed and Extremities) that got awards and let her overcome her reputation as a bad actress.

That poster was as popular for how the suit conformed to her body contours as for her megawatt smile.

I was a few years too young for Farrah-mania, but once I started to appreciate feminine aesthetics, I found Jaclyn Smith the hottest of the Angels (I've always preferred brunettes). Although Kate Jackson was easily the best in terms of personality and talent.

This movie is based on the original Ms. Marvel comic book, so Fury and Rambeau aren't in it. I do now agree with you and others about a different actress for the main character.

I'd be hard pressed to think of the 70's Ms Marvel's supporting cast. I think JJ Jameson was part of it when she ran Woman Magazine.
Jason Robards as JJJ.

I'd keep the guy that played Jonah in the Amazing Spider-Man pilot, David White. He played Darren's boss Larry Tate on Bewitched, and as Jonah was a very similar character, testy and a master of the slow burn.
