"Resting" the Daleks

I wonder if they'll ever bring Skaro's co-inhabitants, the Thals back at some point. They haven't been seen since "Genesis", and chronologically (Novels and audios aside) "Planet of the Daleks" was their 'last' appearence. Perhaps they survived the time war, but at some cost. Maybe they'll be "Thaleks"?

And they all speak with a humorous lisp.

What is funny about the Daleks story in Doctor who is it's similarity with the Time Machine story by H.G. Wells. The blonde haired blue eyed Thals and the evil underground Daleks. The blonde haired blue eyed Eloi and the evil underground Morlocks. Both were set upon by a time traveler, who changed the planets dynamic.

As the old saying goes, "if you're going to steal, steal from the best"

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, so I'm in favor of giving a Daleks a rest for a few seasons. But, of course, Daleks make the ratings grow larger, so I very much imagine we'll be seeing them at least once a year.

And, hell, at least the Cybes killed Adric, so, you know, bravo.

My only regret is we don't know what special about Yellow/Eternal Daleks. Moffat said there was some big mystery about him. I figure he was like the Dalek Time controller that appeared in Big Finish plays.

I thought Moffat actually said something like "I have no idea what 'Eternal Dalek' means. But it sounds cool."

I'm in the minority of liking the colorful Daleks although I'll admit that there's some incongruity with them caring enough about such things. But I'm all about leaving them be for a while. The new series never made the Dalek as scary as it was in the episode Dalek. Then is was like they were coming back all the time and they got as lame as they could be in old series (I have seen all the Dalek themed episodes but not like very many of the others).

Yeah the impression given seemed to be people weren't quite sure what the Eternal was all about...

Good riddance to them I say. Reminds me of the days when the Borg were used way too much on Voyager.

I didn't mind that The Borg were used heavily in VOY, it was the way they were used that got ridiculous. To quote The Federation President from Star Trek Six;

"Let us redefine progress to mean that just because we can do a thing, it does not necessarily mean we must do that thing."

Dalek: We are entombed, but we live on. This is only the beginning. We will prepare. We will grow stronger. When the time is right, we will emerge and take our rightful place as the supreme power of the universe!!!

Re: Daleks to be given a rest

Hello Allyn & all: I'm in agreement. Although they are a classic Who villain, a rest would be welcome. At least, until someone writes a "great" story for them. Then we will all be excited about their return. Best regards, Madelow.

And since Moffat's tweet just says "for this season" I'm sure they'll come up with something. I'd like to see Moffat write the next Dalek story rather than bring in a third party. If not him, then I nominate Nicholas Briggs who has been writing Daleks stories for Big Finish for the last decade.

Re: Daleks to be given a rest

Eternal Dalek is probably a female. Have we ever heard him/her speak?

It's probably like a queen that can incubate more Daleks.

At least that's my take on it.

Or just simply a forward thinker.

To the fan fiction!

Maybe it's The Eternal from "War Of The Worlds"

The Daleks were used eight times (not counting the Five Doctors cameo) in twenty years. They went five years between appearances during Tom Baker's reign, Baker only facing them twice, and the three eighties Doctors only facing them once each. It's really nothing new to rest them periodically.
