Yep, I picked up my copy, along with a copy of Death in Winter (paperback) & CoE: Grand Designs (trade) this mornin' at the Northlake Borders.

If you're going to run an excerpt for an upcoming book, wouldn't it have made more sense to run an excerpt for the next book in the sequence -- that being Q&A -- instead of the one that comes after that? The marketing acumen here escapes me, sadly.

Maybe because they're appealing to the Borg enthusiasts? Reassuring them that there's another Borg story on the way very soon. The completists and KRAD fans are buying "Q&A" anyway, excerpt or no.

Perhaps they wanted to go with a thematic link? Show that the story of the new Borg threat started in Resistance continues in an upcoming novel, even if it's not the next one out?

EDIT: Ah, the TrekBBS. Where no question is answered unless answered thrice. I really should have checked the next page...

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

^I figured that it had to do with either A)The story in "Before Dishonor" seems to more or less pick up from this book or B) PAD being a bigger draw than KRAD. (which is not meant, in way shape or form, as a slam against Keith, merely an assumption that more people know who Peter David is.)

Picked up Death in Winter and Resistance on Friday from the local Borders Express. I'm about 230 pages into DiW... an easy read, to be sure. Better than I was expecting, as I had low expectations and didn't feel it was worth buying in hardcover (and am still glad I waited). Trying to finish it up before Tuesday when Star Wars: Legacy of the Force: Inferno comes out, which I plan on reading ASAP. So it looks like Resistance won't get read until next weekend.

Actually, Inferno is already out. I hang out on the Official MBs for Sw and everyone there is already talking about it. I haven't read it myself, I'm only on Joiner King.

I know, but I can't find it anywhere, and the "official" release date is on Tuesday, when I know for sure Borders, B&N, etc. will have it.

Trust me, it drives me nuts that I can't find it yet, otherwise, I'd be reading it right now. :scream:

I think I've coined today the most frightening two-word phrase in the English language:

"Emo Worf."

In...any event...

I'm still waiting for Resistance to show up here. Same for Sword of Damocles. Wasn't that supposed to be out in August?

^ Really? I thought that the delay of Fearful Symmetry moved everything up a month.

^ No. And Sword of Damocles was announced as being moved to December in February. :)

Thanks for the update, KRAD. Now I won't be bugging the staff at Borders. :)

In any event, I saw Resistance at B&N this afternoon, picked it up, read the prologue. I think I'll wait 'til the library gets it in. I don't relish paying $7.99 for a 308 page book that will take me less than 48 hours to read.

Is the writing really big or something, or do you just read quickly?

I'd say 48 hours to read Resistance is slow. I was done in about five, and I wasn't taking it particularly fast. :)

And I'm speaking of actual hours - in between work, life, etc - not just reading time.

I double-checked. The last Trek novel I read, Reap the Whirlwind was nearly twice the length of Resistance. Any shorter than that 450 pages, and for me, it's barely worth reading.

You couldn't have - because I picked up the exact same books yesterday at Borders. :D
